Traditional Kombucha

Product Type:Tea: Kombucha; Container: 8.4 oz can
BevNET Review: Kombucha Wonder Drink “Traditional” is a pasteurized kombucha product that comes packaged in an 8 oz. can. It’s rather sweet tasting, despite having only 60 calories, but it still manages to have a very authentic kombucha flavor. There’s a tea note to the base, followed by the distinct flavor of fermented tea, which is rounded out nicely by the product’s natural carbonation. Unlike some of the other products out there (or homebrewed versions) this product uses pasteurization to make it shelf stable and kill off the alcohol that is produced during fermentation. According to the manufacturer, the benefits of kombucha (assuming you believe that there are some) come in the form of acids that are created during fermentation and these acids are not affected by pasteurizing the product. Ultimately, we like the drink’s flavor – it’s a nice, sophisticated alternative to still tea. On the outside, they’ve done a nice job of presenting something that’s artisanal looking and appealing to the eye. It's chic, but feels credible, and we like the packaging differentiation by using a can. Overall, a very enjoyable product.

Asian Pear and Ginger

Product Type:Tea: Kombucha; Container: 8.4 oz can
BevNET Review: Asian Pear & Ginger appears to be the only true remnant of the original lineup, but it seems much improved over the original version than we remember. There's a very pleasant note of pear that hits you upon sampling the drink, which also helps moderate the fermented flavor of the kombucha. In addition, there's an enjoyably nutty note from the oolong tea before it finishes off with a lightly sweet carbonated finish. Packaging is clean and attractive, giving off premium and sophisticated vibes. Overall, our favorite flavor of the lineup -- and possibly the most drinkable kombucha drink we've had to date.

Green Tea & Lemon

Product Type:Tea: Kombucha; Container: 8.4 oz can
BevNET Review: Of all of Kombucha Wonder Drink flavors, the Green Tea & Lemon variety is definitely the most marketable of the bunch. The simple reason is that the pairing of green tea, kombucha, lemon, and sugar makes for a flavor that’s a not-so-distant cousin of the classic mixture of black tea and lemon. The addition of fermented flavor and carbonation give the product a sophisticated feeling that’s definitely a nice change of pace compared to still tea. The fermented flavor is actually rather mild, at least in comparison to raw or home-brewed kombucha products. And of course, there’s the health aspect, which is ultimately why kombucha products have become so popular. Since this product is shelf stable, it’s pasteurized, which means that it lacks the live probiotic content found in raw kombucha products. But it also lacks the alcohol that got so many of those drinks pulled from the shelves. While we’re not trying to make a statement on the efficacy of kombucha, we will tell you that Kombucha Wonder Drink claims that the key acids in kombucha (the ones that provide the supposed health benefits) are not impacted by pasteurization. On the outside, we like the product’s 8 oz. can, which, thanks to the success of energy drinks, has a naturally functional vibe to it. It’s clean and chic, with a bilingual English and French package (presumably for going into Canada). Overall, a very well-executed product.
