We have to give the folks behind Lanilai some credit for creating a flavor profile that actually is soothing and relaxing based on taste alone. The non-carbonated, lightly sweetened (with sugar and stevia) formulation has a very mellow taste, which is much different than some of the soda like offerings (soda is hardly relaxing) that have been created by the competition. That said, it tastes very much like a flavored water, which seems like a decent approach. Functionally, the product contains B vitamins, passionflower extract, L-theanine, L-threonine, 5-HTP, and resveratrol. As with other relaxation drinks that don’t contain ingredients that are commonly used in sleep aids, we can’t tell you if this one works, but avoiding potentially controversial ingredients seems like a smart move in the long run. However, we’re not so sure about their choice of branding and packaging. For starters, the 8 ounce can implies that it’s a carbonated beverage and possibly an energy drink. This might not be an issue, but their visual treatment is somewhat washed out and requires close examination to read it. Using more vibrant colors might make it easier to read from afar. Otherwise, the Hawaiian theme seems fine -- it’s hard to argue that it’s not a relaxing image -- but making the product have more visual pop would be a plus. Overall, this is a good first effort and one that could definitely be improved upon.
