Dispensed for almost 100 years at Levis Hot Dogs located 6 blocks from the Libverty Bell in Philadelphia. Originally dispensed from a marble soda fountain Abe Levis purchased used in 1895 for $30, Champ Cherry has been a long time favorite in Philadelphia. Available in 12 oz long neck bottles and cans.

BevNET Review: When it comes to regional sodas, there are those that fit into more mainstream buckets (a la root beer) and those that have a bit more character (e.g. super spicy ginger ale). Levis Diet Chocolate Cherry Soda fits into the latter bucket, with a flavor that’s both memorable and enjoyable. Levis Sodas have been existed in Philadelphia since 1895, when Abe Levis opened Levis, a hot dog stand that featured sodas poured from a marble fountain. This version is a bit more modern, using sweeteners such as ace-k and sucralose, but the old fashioned vibe is still there. The flavor is moderately sweet and very fizzy, with notes of chocolate and cherry providing the majority of the flavor. The “Champ” refers to champagne, but it’s hard to see where that really fits into the formulation. The flavors do a nice job of covering the artificial sweeteners, with only a slight, but tolerable, note at the finish. Packaging is a standard looking 12 oz. long neck bottle, which has been given a pretty plain looking paper label. For most products, this would be a serious knock against it, but for this product, it fits with the old time style of the drink. However, it might be a bit too easy to miss given its lack of visual presence. Overall, an enjoyable retro style diet soda.Reviewed on: 8/16/2011

Root Beer Soda

BevNET Review: Levis Root Beer Soda is not your average root beer. Why? Well for starters, this product is not going for the super creamy flavor that we see in most other root beers. Instead, this product has a flavor that tastes more like a cross between mint and licorice flavors. This is a decent product if you are looking for a root beer that has a light composition. The only thing we'd change is the labeling as it looks somewhat similar to another Pennsylvania based brand.Reviewed on: 9/4/2003

Champ Cherry

BevNET Review: You can't go wrong with Levis Champ Cherry Soda. It does a great job of embodying a classic styled soda -- and in this case that works well since this product is styled after sodas found at Levis Hot Dogs in Philadelphia (even using the same flavors). The flavor is described as "cherry-champagne" which pretty much sums it up. It's a cross between a straight up cherry soda and one of those champagne flavored sodas that you find now and then. The result is a soda that quenches your thirst and makes you realize why this product has been sold since 1895. Perhaps the only room for improvement is the packaging -- it has a nostalgic feeling but could definitely be done up to further give the feeling of the true Philadelphia classic that it is.Reviewed on: 9/4/2003

Vanilla Cream Soda

BevNET Review: Levis Vanilla Cream is a good quality soda that has a very nice vanilla flavor to it. We have to say, the use of a clear bottle definitely helped our opinion of this product -- it gives the product a much different feeling than the many brown glass cream sodas that are on the market today. Anyway, this product delivers when it comes to taste -- and that's really what counts. The product isn't the richest of vanilla creams, but it offers a balanced clean flavor that finishes with a natural tasting vanilla flavor. Good stuff.Reviewed on: 9/3/2003
