Review: Kick (2013)

Like LuliTonix's “Chill!” variety, “Kick!” is a raw (non pasteurized, non-HPP) blended greens smoothie that is made with a base of greens (kale, romaine lettuce, chard) with some of the pulp from the ingredients left in the product. In this product, the company has also added mango, figs, lemon, mint, chia and cinnamon, but the flavor is still very much that of the greens. There’s a very mellow sweetness from the figs and mango, while the mint and cinnamon provide the finish. The chia seeds appear to have been blended into the drink, leaving behind only a slight grit. All in all, we really enjoyed the light flavor of the product. And the nutritional benefits, which include 7g of fiber and 4g of protein, don’t hurt either. Visually, we like the look of the product, but we have a couple of reservations about it. Most concerning is the lack of differentiation from its “Chill!” counterpart. The company uses pretty much the same design and color palette, making it easy to mistake the two. Beyond that, we wish that the LuliTonix logo had a bit more pop to it. As it stands right now, the product feels somewhat stark. Overall, LuliTonix Kick! is an enjoyable raw green smoothie that, at least from a taste perspective, could definitely lure in a more mainstream consumer than your typical green juice.
