Pink Lemonade

Product Type:Juice: Juice Drink; Container: 16 oz PET
BevNET Review: MADE’s Pink Lemonade is a USDA Organic certified blend of their base lemonade, strawberry juice, and natural flavors. In terms of taste, the sweet mixture is definitely pleasing to the palate and provides a wholesome interpretation of the classic summertime beverage. The added strawberry juice definitely makes a difference, but a little more of it probably wouldn’t hurt. Otherwise, this drink hits the nail on the head. On the outside, the fully wrapped 16 oz. PET bottle gives the product a visual appearance that doesn’t quite match the quality of what’s inside the bottle. Specifically, it feels like something more appropriate for a budget conscious product or flavored water. Fruit images and the ability to see the liquid would definitely help make this product more appealing against the competition who more successfully interpret the image of an ice cold glass of lemonade. Overall, what’s inside the bottle is really good, but the packaging leaves something to be desired. Reviewed on: 4/12/2012

Half & Half

Product Type:Juice: Juice Drink; Container: 16 oz PET
BevNET Review: Unlike most Half & Half beverages, Made’s formulation of this classic blend of lemonade and iced tea uses green tea. In addition, it has less sugar than the other Made flavors. Both of these items combined make the flavor somewhat of a head-scratcher to us. It’s a lemon-heavy, not-too-sweet blend that really misses any meaningful tea flavor. It’s not bad, but we’d suggest calling this “green tea flavored lemonade” (or some variation of it) as opposed to a half and half. As it stands right now, this product definitely does not deliver as advertised. Visually, the label design and stumpy 16 oz. bottle honestly feels somewhat underwhelming, with “Made,” which is presumably a reference to “homemade,” feeling out of place on a full-wrap bottle of this type. Overall, this unfortunately is not one of our favorite flavors of the MADE line. Reviewed on: 4/12/2012

Lemonade

Product Type:Juice: Fruit Juice; Container: 16 oz PET
BevNET Review: Made Lemonade uses a formulation that is straightforward and simple, including water, lemon juice, cane sugar, natural flavor, and fruit juice for color. The result is something that tastes very fresh and balanced, with a good amount of sweetness to offset the lemon flavor. This product is extremely drinkable and enjoyable, with some of the best flavor we’ve seen from a shelf stable lemonade. Packaging is a 16 oz. PET bottle, with a bright yellow label that feels very mainstream, but also like something that’s natural and premium. We like what they’ve done with the transparent sections of the label, which look like a cut-through lemon peel and also let the consumer see what’s inside the bottle. These little touches, along with the bright yellow color, definitely speak to the senses and make you feel as though there is very high quality lemonade inside this bottle. Overall, a very enjoyable product and one of the better flavors that we’ve seen from Made.Reviewed on: 12/9/2011

Pomegranate Mojito

Product Type:Juice: Fruit Juice; Container: 16 oz PET
BevNET Review: Of the initial flavors of Made, Pomegranate Mojito was our least favorite. Pretty much as soon as you take a drink of this product, a somewhat unpleasant mint flavor (it tastes like a peppermint patty) hits your tongue, overpowering the other flavors in the drink. To that extent, it’s pretty hard to evaluate the pomegranate or “mojito” flavor, although there is a natural note of lime somewhere in there. Rather than trying to fix the mint flavor, which seems to be at odds with the green tea, we’d suggest simplification, especially since the mojito craze has somewhat passed its prime. Hopefully Tenaya will make a significant change to this product in their next run.Reviewed on: 2/1/2010

Cranberry Limeade

Product Type:Juice: Fruit Juice; Container: 16 oz PET
BevNET Review: This was our favorite flavor of the bunch, with a well executed cranberry limeade flavor that’s both enjoyable and marketable. The tart flavor of the cranberries pairs nicely with the acidity of lime, making for something that’s balanced and smooth. There’s a slight note of green tea in the drink, which, in our opinion, would be better if it were stronger. In its current form, it’s not easily identifiable as green tea, making it have a slightly off flavor to the finish. Our only other concern for this product is its sweetness level, which we think is simply too strong. Packaging is, like the rest of the Made line, a 16 oz. PET1 bottle with a sleeve wrap label. Their design is appealing to the eye, but the emphasis goes to the wrong places at times, making it easy for your eye to miss the fact that the product contains green tea. That’s a pretty critical differentiator for this product that’s potentially lost, leaving the drink selling itself solely as a USDA Organic juice drink. Overall, a good effort that could be made even better with a few changes. Reviewed on: 2/1/2010

Blueberry Lemonade

Product Type:Juice: Fruit Juice; Container: 16 oz PET
BevNET Review: Using a USDA Organic certified base of green tea, fruit juices, natural flavor, and sugar, Made’s Blueberry Lemonade is a pleasant tasting juice drink. Thanks to the use of blueberry and lemon juices, the product has accurate tasting fruit flavors, although the blueberry is definitely the dominant flavor. So in that sense, it’s more like blueberry juice with a splash of lemon juice as opposed to a blueberry flavored lemonade (which we think would be more appealing). In addition, the product is rather sweet, with 44g of sugar (and 180 calories) per 16 oz. bottle. Cutting the level of sweetness would make this drink have more appeal with the type of consumer who is going to appreciate the green tea base. Packaging is a 16 oz. PET1 bottle, which was, according the company’s web site, selected for its recyclability. The sleeve label is appealing to the eye, aside from the disproportionate USDA Organic logo. However, from an effectiveness point of view, the message of this drink is confusing and not descriptive enough. At first glance, it appears to be a premium juice, looking like something that belongs in the refrigerator case despite being a shelf-stable juice cocktail. In addition, it’s easy to miss the use of green tea, which is not mentioned until the last line of text on the front panel. In our opinion, having a more prominent descriptor of what the drink is would help start things off on the right foot. Overall, it’s conceptually good, but dialing down the sweetness and better explaining the concept would go a long way.Reviewed on: 2/1/2010

Blackberry Peach

Product Type:Juice: Fruit Juice; Container: 16 oz PET
BevNET Review: Blackberry and peach isn’t a flavor combination that’s likely to immediately whet the appetite of many consumers, but, marketability aside, this is a nice tasting product. The blackberry and peach flavors come from both fruit juice and flavoring, but remain accurate and are distinguishable from full bodied mix. It’s tart and sweet, while the added green tea adds a slightly earthy note to the finish. Like the Blueberry Lemonade variety, we feel as though this product would be better if it were less sweet (we added water to it to test this), both because of the drink’s calorie count (200 per bottle) and to let the green tea be a bigger part of the flavor. On the outside, the drink has a nice looking design, although leaving “tea” out of the flavor name makes it easy to mistake this product for a straight up juice cocktail. Overall, nice fruit flavor and conceptually good, but they need to make the front of the label better communicate what this product is to the consumer.Reviewed on: 2/1/2010
