Maine Root Lemonade

BevNET Review: Building on the strong formulation of their Lemonade variety, Maine Root has mixed maple syrup into the mixture to create this product, “Lemonade with Maple Syrup.” This is a combination that we have never seen in a bottle before, so it definitely gets points for originality. The product starts with a pretty heavy note of maple to its aroma, but once you start drinking it, the maple flavor quickly blends in with the lemonade to create something that has its own identity rather than tasting like maple syrup and lemonade. Whether that’s a good thing or not is ultimately a matter of personal preference – but the execution seems top-notch. Also, we can’t help but wonder how this flavor would taste as part of Maine Root’s soda line. Packaging is a stock bottle with a white cap, while the label has, unlike the Lemonade flavor, some better callouts to what is inside the bottle. However, figuring out the brand name still requires a little bit of searching. Making a better tie between lemons (which are not from Maine) and maple syrup would definitely help. Overall, it has a very unique and rather enjoyable flavor, but the positioning of the product could use some further thought.Reviewed on: 3/23/2011

BevNET Review: Made with three ingredients, water, fair trade cane juice, and lemon juice concentrate (it's 10 percent juice), this product is about as simple and straightforward as homemade lemonade (excluding the fresh squeezed lemons, of course). From a flavor perspective, this product hits the nail on the head, with the perfect amount of sour lemon flavor and sweetness from the sugar. At 44g of sugar and 180 calories per bottle, this product isn’t for the calorie conscious, but for what it is, they’ve done an amazing job. On the outside, the bottle is a stock 16 oz. glass bottle with a stock white cap. It fits with the handcrafted look of the label, which uses similar artwork to Maine Root’s flagship soda line. However, it’s not obvious that this is a Maine Root product, with the “Maine Root Handcrafted Beverages” in a small font on the front panel (there’s also a tiny image of Maine in the left corner). Giving this a bit more emphasis would definitely help this product establish its identity. Label improvements aside, this is one of the best bottled lemonades that we’ve ever sampled.Reviewed on: 3/22/2011

BevNET Review: Made with a blend of water, sugar, lemon juice, ginger root extract, and natural flavors, the Ginger Lemongrass Lemonade is a pleasant tasting beverage that is built on a base similar to the flagship flavor. If you are expecting spicy ginger flavor, this product doesn’t have it – the ginger flavor is very mild and adds depth rather heat. The lemongrass is also very subtle, hitting your tongue only at the drink’s finish. Really, this is a flavor that will probably appeal best to people who find the core Lemonade variety to be too sour. Otherwise, there really isn’t that much of a difference between the two products. Visually, the product even looks very similar to the Lemonade variety, with the biggest difference being the slightly orange backdrop and the change from “fair trade” to “ginger-lemongrass.” We think it would be easy to mix up the two if you aren’t looking too closely. Overall, a very nice tasting product, but we still prefer the Lemonade variety to this one. Reviewed on: 3/22/2011
