Grapefruit Ginger

Product Type:Juice: Juice Drink; Container: 10 oz glass
BevNET Review: As far as the Mamma Chia lineup is concerned, this flavor, Grapefruit Ginger, might just be our favorite to date. Mixing lemon, grapefruit, and ginger with their base of hydrated chia seeds makes for something that has a very enjoyable and balanced flavor (and is USDA Organic as well). Each flavor is easily distinguished from the whole, which gives the product a sophisticated flavor without the need for a ton of sweetness (it is only very lightly sweetened with agave). Of course, it still has the same consistency as the other Mamma Chia flavors -- so expect there to be a slight chew when consuming this. Nutritionally, this flavor, like the rest of the Mamma Chia line, comes loaded with 2500mg of Omega-3, protein, fiber, antioxidants, and calcium. Visually, the product’s label has only subtle differences from the other flavors of the lineup. While this definitely makes for a clean and polished presence on the shelf, it leaves the flavor name as the only meaningful visual difference between the various flavors. If they continue to expand the line, this could become something that they need to address. Overall, Mamma Chia’s Grapefruit Ginger is a very well executed and enjoyable flavor. Guava Mamma

Product Type:Juice: Juice Drink; Container: 10 oz glass
BevNET Review: Guava Mamma is a guava and pineapple flavored hydrated chia seed beverage that is part of the Summer 2012 Mamma Chia line extension. The flavor of the product is very subtle, just like the rest of the Mamma Chia lineup, with the main flavor of the product still being that of the chia seeds. The guava and pineapple flavors come in as secondary flavors, adding a somewhat complementary fruit flavor that makes you want to go back for another sip. To that end, it’s a very addictive flavor, which is extremely impressive given how mellow the flavor is. On the outside, we still love the 10 oz. curved glass bottle, which fits the brand perfectly. We’d say the same for the label, which exudes healthiness and quality through its simple design. Really our only concern for this product is the visual similarity between the growing number of flavors in the line. Otherwise, we really wouldn’t change a thing. Reviewed on: 9/4/2012

Kiwi Lime

Product Type:Juice: Juice Drink; Container: 10 oz glass
BevNET Review: The Kiwi Lime flavor of Mamma Chia is another enjoyable addition to the brand’s lineup. It’s on par with their other entries, delivering accurate fruit flavor that is the result of using quality ingredients (both lime juice and kiwi juice are ingredients in this product). That said, it really comes down to a matter of personal preference of the drinker. Definitely another great flavor from Mamma Chia. Reviewed on: 9/4/2012

Pomegranate Mint

Product Type:Other; Container: 12 oz Glass
BevNET Review: This variety of Mamma Chia uses pomegranate juice, lemon juice, lime juice, mint extract, organic flavors, and agave alongside their base of hydrated chia seeds. The flavor of this variety feels lighter than some of the original fruit flavored offerings, but it’s very enjoyable nonetheless. The product has a very balanced flavor, with the chia seeds and fruit flavors providing a smooth -- and hydrating -- experience from start to finish. Nutritionally, the product has 120 calories, 14g of sugar, 4g of protein, 6g of fiber, and 2500mg of Omega-3, so it’s definitely not short on substance. Visually, we like the fact that the color of the liquid and the label are very similar, which, when paired with the floating chia seeds, makes very good use of the clear glass bottle. Otherwise, the product has a very good-for-you vibe, which they’ve done a nice job executing. Overall, an enjoyable addition to the lineup. Reviewed on: 1/16/2012

Coconut Mango

Product Type:Other; Container: 12 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Following the popular trend of coconut flavored beverages, Mamma Chia’s Coconut Mango blends two tropical flavors with a base of hydrated chia seeds. From a flavor perspective, it’s quite restrained, with a mellow flavor that’s light on both sweetness and fruit flavor. The mango is easier to taste than the coconut, which, quite honestly, is much easier to detect in the drink’s smell rather than its flavor. The suspended chia seeds provide visual enhancement to the product as well as nutrition and chew to the liquid. However, compared to some of the other flavors, the natural thickness to the mango seems to slightly camouflage the chia seeds and reduce their chew. From a packaging perspective, the 10 oz. glass bottle continues with the theme that was established by the initial batch of Mamma Chia flavors. Specifically, it has a very good-for-you look, both in the taper of the bottle and the whimsical design of the label. Overall, we think that this is a very marketable and enjoyable extension to the line -- and it’s definitely a good starting point for consumers who are new to the brand.Reviewed on: 1/16/2012

Cherry Lime

Product Type:Juice: Juice Drink; Container: 10 oz Glass
BevNET Review: The first variety of Mamma Chia that we sampled was Cherry Lime. The flavor of this product is unique, starting with the fact that it contains a high amount of hydrated chia seeds, which provide the drink’s base. This results in something that has an almost gelatinous body, but with a much more natural feeling to it. The cherry lime flavor is extremely subtle, providing mostly a note at the finish. That seems like the right approach – any more flavoring and we think the drink would probably taste like Jello. Nutritionally, this product is loaded with 2000mg omega-3, 10g of fiber, 4g of protein, 33mg of calcium, and antioxidants. Packaging is a slender 10 oz. glass bottle, which, when factoring in the label, has a very feminine feel. A cool attribute of the drink is the actual liquid, which, thanks to the hydrated chia seeds, has a very unique appearance with seeds suspended consistently throughout. So, there’s definitely no question that it contains loads of chia seeds, and the appearance is of a premium product. Overall, we really like this flavor of Mamma Chia, the flavor and concept are very well executed, while the packaging and positioning seem spot on with the suspected target consumer. Blackberry Hibiscus

Product Type:Juice: Juice Drink; Container: 10 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Of the initial four Mamma Chia flavors, Blackberry Hibiscus was our favorite (Raspberry Passion, which tastes very similar, is a close second). Utilizing a base of hydrated chia seeds, the product has a very viscous and slightly chunky body, which is probably best compared to gelatin (which is not an ingredient in the drink – this stuff is vegan). The chia seeds don’t impart much flavor, with your mouth instead focusing on the slight chew that comes from them. The added blackberry and hibiscus flavors are very mild, but complement the overall feel of this chia based formulation. There’s a touch of agave (9g of sugar), but it’s in no way a sweet tasting product. All in all, it’s an enjoyable tasting drink that definitely feels like something that’s good for you. And good for you it is, with 2000mg of omega 3, 10g of fiber, and 4g of protein as well as calcium, antioxidants, and iron. Packaging is perfect for what this drink is, with peaceful-looking branding and a slim 10 oz. glass bottle. Even the name, Mamma Chia, is easy to understand and goes nicely with what’s inside the bottle. Overall, chia based drinks are obviously very new, but Mamma Chia has definitely put their best foot forward with this product. Reviewed on: 4/15/2011
