BevNET Review: If you were alive in the 1980’s or early 1990’s, the Maui & Sons brand is probably something that you’ve seen before on clothing and surf related gear. Yes, this product is from that same company, although from the looks of this product you’d never know it. Why they’ve gone down this path -- one that looks like an unappealing commoditized value brand -- is a bit of a head scratcher. Why not use the classic circle logo on the front of the can (it’s buried on the back) or Arnold Sharkley, the brand’s iconic mascot? In any event, this is an easy to miss product, although it’s very intriguing (and definitely a sign of the times) to see an apparel brand get into coconut water. What’s inside the can is definitely a commodity, with variation in even the product’s own two packaging formats (for what it’s worth, we preferred the 17.5 oz. format better). Overall, we think that the Maui and Sons brand could look good on a coconut water can, but this rendition just isn’t it. Reviewed on: 3/19/2012
