MiO

Manufacturer's Brand Overview [Edit]

These days, consumers can personalize almost all their experiences – from their playlists and TV line-ups to their smartphone applications. And they do. Introducing MiO, a liquid beverage enhancer that offers consumers the freedom to create their own customized drink, even on the go. Meet MiO: • Comes in six delicious flavors: Berry Pomegranate, Strawberry Watermelon, Fruit Punch Mango Peach, Sweet Tea and Peach Tea. It has no artificial flavors or caffeine, and zero calories per 8 ounce serving. • Each bottle of MiO provides 24 servings in the palm of your hand. • To make MiO, you flip it, tip it and sip it – flip open the cap to unlock the flavor, tip and squeeze MiO into water or another liquid, then sip it. It self-mixes instantly and you can use as much or as little as you like for a personalized beverage. MiO is designed to be completely portable, so you can make your drink your way, even on the go: put it in your purse when you walk out the door in the morning, bring it to work with you to sip throughout the day, or throw it in your gym bag before a workout. MiO will be available on store shelves in mass market and grocery stores nationwide for $3.99/bottle on March 7. In the meantime, anyone can go to www.facebook.com and order a free sample by clicking on the “Meet MiO” tab (until supplies last) – and if you’re interested, I would be happy to send you a sample directly if you’d like to give MiO a try.

Green Thunder

Product Type:Functional: Other Tablets & Powder; Container: 1.08 oz PET
BevNET Review: The “Green Thunder” variety of Kraft’s MiO Energy is a green apple flavored formulation. While apple isn’t exactly synonymous with “thunder” (we’d call it “Green Apple”), it’s a flavor that seems like a good fit for the brand. And, fortunately, the execution is quite good, with a sucralose and ace-k blend providing this zero-calorie product a nice level of sweetness and no aftertaste. On the energy front, the product has 60mg of caffeine per serving (which they call a “squeeze” -- one twelfth of the bottle) and added B vitamins and guarana. To that end the product is definitely a credible energy booster, but you can certainly add more (or less) depending on how much flavor and caffeine you care to consume. Compared with other mix or add-in products, we especially like the product mixes itself from the power of the squeeze. This makes it a lot more practical than some of its competitors, which require either a spoon to stir or a vessel with a lid for shaking. Finally, we really like the design of the packaging. Compared with the white color of the original MiO line, this product feels much more hip and attractive and definitely catches the eye. Overall, a very solid product. Reviewed on: 1/18/2012

Black Cherry

Product Type:Functional: Other Tablets & Powder; Container: 1.08 oz PET
BevNET Review: Of the two MiO Energy flavors, we preferred Black Cherry. The flavor will be familiar to anyone who has ever had a black cherry soda, with the carbonation being the only thing lacking (although in theory you could add this to sparkling water). The product is sweetened with sucralose and ace-k, which is definitely our favorite zero-calorie sweetener blend. Functionally, the product has 60 mg of caffeine per “squeeze” (that’s their measure for a serving). In addition, the product has B vitamins and guarana, which are standard for energy drinks. All in all, this product provides a modest kick of energy, although you can certainly increase it by adding more squeezes. On the outside, the proprietary 1.08 oz. package has a sleek looking design, thanks to a modern looking logo, a black colored theme, and a unique shape to the container. All in all, this is one of the best energy add ins that we’ve seen to date, both in terms of flavor and packaging. Definitely worth a try.Reviewed on: 1/18/2012

Fruit Punch

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 1.6 oz PET
BevNET Review: If you’ve ever had Kool-Aid, then the flavor of MiO Fruit Punch is something that you'll find familiar. However, unlike Kool-Aid, this product is sugar-free and zero-calorie. That being said, it doesn’t actually taste like a sugar free product, which is due in part to the choice of ace-k and sucralose as the drink’s sweeteners. Missing from the party is any aftertaste, with the drink finishing relatively cleanly. The other difference is that this product can be dropped into water without any mixing or other ingredients – and you can easily control the strength of the mixture. Packaging is an eye catching tear drop shaped 1.62 oz. flip top container. They’ve created something that’s both cool looking and very convenient, especially considering that the product can stay at ambient temperatures for up to one month. Overall, this is definitely one of the best concentrated drinks that we’ve seen – and we think it has a big leg up on competing powdered mixes. Reviewed on: 3/8/2011

Peach Tea

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 1.6 oz PET
BevNET Review: MiO’s Peach Tea is designed to be mixed with at least 8 ounces of water, but otherwise, the consumer can control how much (or how little) of the flavor they wish to mix in. In our tests, the flavor was surprisingly good, with a zero calorie formulation that has minimal sweetener aftertaste thanks to the use of sucralose and ace-k. The tea flavor is decent, but does not deliver the same taste as brewed tea (it’s on par with instant). The biggest advantage that MiO has over powdered product is that it does not need to be mixed – simply squirt it into a glass and wait a few seconds. On that same note, packaging is definitely this brand’s strongest point, with a silver flip-top container that’s both eye catching and very functional / convenient. The brand name is something that we don’t fully get, especially with the lowercase I in the middle (is MiO short for something, an acronym, or just a word?). Finally, mentioning on the front panel that it’s a zero calorie product would definitely help. Overall, a very enjoyable, convenient, and cool looking product. Reviewed on: 3/8/2011
