Review: Mo-Tea

Mo-Tea is a product that is brewed with organic moringa leaves, which are known for having a variety of health benefits. From a taste perspective, the product, which is also made with blue agave, lime and spices, has a flavor that tastes similar to a lemon-flavored black tea. It’s sweet (to the point where we question if it really has only 9g of sugar per 8 oz.) and citrusy, with the spices (especially the cinnamon) masking most of the flavor of the moringa. To that end, the experience inside the bottle isn’t overly unique, but it’s definitely a quality tasting product. On the other hand, packaging, branding, and messaging feel very raw. Leading with the text “THE WORLD’S HEALTHIEST TEA” does not seem like a smart approach, both because the company cannot possibly back up such a statement and because it starts to undermine their ability to create something that is appealing to the senses. We’d say the same about the design, which doesn’t really even attempt to establish a brand. Instead, it has somewhat generic looking images and a very basic font for the product name. Lastly, the rest of the label is riddled with typos, all the way down to mistakes on the ingredients list. All of these things should be addressed before this company moves forward with this product. Overall, we like the flavor of the product, but the presentation and positioning of the product are obvious roadblocks to its chances of success.
