BevNET Review: MonaVie EMV is an energy drink that’s made by a multi-level marketing company that has been selling its products since 2005. Their entry into the energy drink category uses an 80 percent juice blend, which consists of acai, apple, grape, pear, aceraola, cupuacu, and camu camu. Paired with a base of carbonated water, the product has a unique and extremely enjoyable flavor that’s both tart and sweet, with a big note of fruit flavor to it. They’ve also added their proprietary energy blend, which consists of yerba mate, maca, D-ribose, guarana, green tea, B vitamins, and a few other ingredients that are common in energy drinks. What you won’t find is added caffeine; instead, stimulation is delivered entirely from caffeine that’s naturally occurring in some of the ingredients. The resulting mixture is designed to give the product a more mellow and lasting boost. In our tests, the kick was mild, but we couldn’t verify that it lasted longer than typical energy drinks. On the outside, they’ve put together a pretty nice looking 8 ounce can, relying on a black backdrop and a bright blue accent color. The front panel is clean and appealing with a distinct looking EMV logo about two thirds of the way down. It certainly has a credible vibe to it, although billing it as a “healthy energy supplement” seems like a fancy way to say “energy drink.” In addition, we’re not really sold on this product’s tag line of “the premier acai blend,” especially since there’s another acai player in the beverage business who makes a fine tasting acai flavored energy drink. Minor flaws aside, MonaVie’s EMV is an enjoyable product – and certainly one that will keep its MLM constituency happy.Reviewed on: 7/2/2009
