Mood Bender Hybrid Tea’s “Peace & Calm” variety is clearly trying to be a player in the relaxation category. Their formula, which features a base of organic “Moroccan mint tea," agave, lime juice, and peppermint oil and leaf extract, is enhanced with several herbal ingredients that are known for their soothing qualities. These include kava kava, passion flower, St. John’s wort, lobelia herb, and pulsatilla herb. From a flavor perspective, the mint flavored tea is pleasant, but the kava kava, agave, and other herbal flavors quickly take over. We’d like to see more of the Moroccan mint tea flavor – it is definitely more pleasing than the herbal flavors that are on top of it (It’s also much more pleasing than the herbal blend that makes up the Alert and Awake variety). Also, there’s the fresh lime juice, which we cannot taste at all. For an ingredient that’s not cheap, that’s a waste – they should either remove it or tweak the flavor so you can actually taste it. Packaging is a 12 oz. condiment bottle, which seems like an okay choice for this product. The painted-on text, on the other hand, leaves something to be desired, with an abstract looking elephant that’s hard to recognize. We’d also recommend dialing back some of the conceptual text, such as “hybrid tea”, which is rather meaningless. Overall, there’s some good stuff here, but refinement would go a long way.
