The Nu Aquos lineup of functional beverages currently comes in three flavors and it was, somewhat surprisingly, the watermelon variety that we preferred the most (the other flavors are good too, but this one stands out). As for its functionality, the beverage is designed to help consumers rehydrate, restore and recover, which might be part of why the list of ingredients on this product is as long as it is. Some of the functional highlights include electrolytes, vitamins and minerals, fiber, and protein (it has 12g per bottle) with 140 calories and 20g of sugar per bottle. We’re not going to get into the technical merits of the types of protein or levels of vitamins in the product, but we will say that it seems like the manufacturer has made a very concerted effort to create a well-rounded functional beverage. And for a product that uses sucralose and Ace-K, it definitely has a very pleasant sweetness and watermelon flavor. In fact, the watermelon flavor does a very nice job of masking the bitterness of the protein. However, it’s on what's on the outside of the product that we feel needs some work. For one thing, we're not big fans of the name Nu Aquos -- it sounds a bit dated to us. Furthermore, the visual treatment, which involves a full wrap that looks almost identical between the three flavors, could be done in a more appealing way. As it stands right now, it’s too technical-looking (even in the realm of functional drinks). Overall, we enjoyed what’s inside the bottle, but we think the company could do a better job with the branding and design of the product.
