BevNET Review: As with its other O.N.E. Active counterparts, the Cranberry Grapefruit flavor uses a base of coconut water that has been enhanced with fruit flavors, herbal ingredients, antioxidants, and calcium. It has also been given some extra sweetener help with the addition of stevia. The resulting flavor has a sharp citrus note, with a very accurate grapefruit flavor hitting your palate first. This is followed by the tartness of the cranberry flavoring, which is also very natural tasting. From there, the mellow, slightly salty flavor of coconut water makes its way to the party, followed by a few herbal notes and a final hint of stevia. In this case, the choice of fruit flavors helps offset most of the sweetener aftertaste, so this is certainly a great flavor choice on the part of O.N.E. and whomever they worked with to create this drink. Functionally, they’ve taken coconut water’s core hydration function and extended it to be a “total performance” beverage. To understand what this means, you’ll have to read the back panel, which explains what each of added ingredients does. From our perspective, it needs to be easier than this, especially when they’ve used the word “energizing” on the front of the package (which might lead some consumers to believe that this product has caffeine – it doesn’t). On the outside, they’ve given the product a colorful and active looking 16.9 oz. Tetra Pak. Our main issue with their approach is that there are two O.N.E. logos that appear on the front panel. They not only conflict in style, but force the eye to hunt for the product’s flavor and coconut water content. Perhaps eliminating the top O.N.E. logo and rolling coconut water into the flavor name (e.g. “Cranberry Grapefruit Coconut Water” or “Coconut Water with Grapefruit and Cranberry”) would help make this product a bit more intuitive. Overall, we really like O.N.E.’s efforts to innovate the coconut water category – and the execution of this flavor is quite impressive, positioning concerns aside.Reviewed on: 6/14/2010

BevNET Review: While this was the last flavor of O.N.E.’s new Active flavors, it’s definitely right there with the other flavors in terms of enjoyable flavor. The berry and grape flavors work incredibly well with the coconut water base, plus it does a very nice job of masking the stevia and herbal ingredients. Functionally, this flavor has O.N.E.’s “total performance” blend of ingredients, which include ginseng, ginkgo biloba, grapeseed extract, catuaba bark, calcium, and antioxidants. The only down side to this approach is that hydration and refreshment are still the only immediately noticeable benefits. On the outside, we like the positive, “active” look of the product. However, it’s not clear if they are trying to be a sports drink – or what exactly “total performance” means. In any event, if they are pulling in new customers because of coconut water curiosity – or existing consumers seeking something new – we think they’ll be pleased with what’s inside the container. BevNET Review: The Lemon Lime flavor of O.N.E. Active is a coconut water beverage that has been enhanced with herbal ingredients (ginseng, ginkgo biloba, grapeseed extract, catuaba bark), calcium, and antioxidants. The goal of the product is to create a formula that aids in “total performance," with energy, focus, stamina, and bone health functions added to the standard coconut water function of hydration. From a flavor point of view, it starts out with the familiar taste of coconut water, but there’s added lemon and lime flavorings and stevia. These ingredients, along with the herbal ingredients, give the product a flavor that’s enjoyable, with the exception of a slight sweetener note to the finish. From a packaging and positioning point of view, the bright green 16.9 oz. Tetra Pak container is eye catching, although they’ve placed the emphasis on “O.N.E. Active”, which doesn’t really tell you what the product is. Calling it “Active Coconut Water” or something that gets the words “coconut water” front and center would be a helpful change. Plus, we think that the emphasis on the word “Active” clutters the front panel and makes it more complicated to figure out what this product is. Overall, we really like the flavor and efforts to differentiate from the pack, but a some tweaks to the packaging would make this a much improved product. Reviewed on: 6/14/2010
