BevNET Review: Orgain’s Creamy Chocolate Fudge is an organic meal replacement product that is packaged in an 11 oz. Tetra Pak container with a resealable “Dreamcap” top. It tastes similar to what we remember in previous reviews, with a very creamy note of chocolate hitting your tongue as soon as you start sipping the product. Like many protein drinks, it has a slightly bitter protein note, but it’s definitely among the better that we’ve tasted. And for a product that uses a blend sweeteners, including sugar, brown rice syrup, and stevia, we think they’ve done a nice job. Beyond that, they’ve loaded a lot of stuff into this drink, including whey protein, vitamins, veggies, fruit, DHA, soy and dairy. In our sampling, even half of a container was pretty filling, but if you do drink the whole 11 oz., you’ll get 255 calories, 7g of fat, 16g of protein, 2g of fiber, potassium, and loads of nutrients. While it does have an aftertaste, it’s a natural rather than chemical flavor, which definitely helps our tolerance for it. Last, there’s the packaging, which, like their previous designs, is pretty busy looking. However, the latest rendition, which adds the resealable top and replaces silver portions of the carton with green, is much more appealing and polished. They’ve also put more emphasis on the protein, with “HIGH PROTEIN” placed atop the logo. This seems like a smart move, since that’s a benefit that consumers definitely seek. The rest of the package feels pretty clean, although we’d like to see the “fruit and veggie blend” (which conflicts with the image of chocolate) and “doctor developed” badges moved somewhere else. BevNET Review: For us, it’s a toss up between Orgain’s Sweet Vanilla Bean and Creamy Chocolate Fudge flavors. It has a sort of milk and soy flavor to the base, making its primary flavor very similar in style to that of a vanilla soy milk. The body of the product definitely seems less creamy and indulgent than the chocolate variety, which ultimately makes it a matter of personal preference as to which one you’ll enjoy most. Like its counterpart, this product is loaded with protein (16g), vitamins, minerals, omega-3 and amino acids and is sweetened with a blend of sugar, brown rice syrup, and stevia. In our first review of this product, we mentioned that figuring out its benefits was somewhat difficult. Fortunately, this time around they’ve added a nice little summary chart on the back panel, which should definitely help things along. Ultimately, the drink appears to work, making you feel full, nourished, and energized after consuming a single 11 oz. container. On the packaging front, they’ve given the product a big upgrade, with the silver sections gone and replaced by a more tightly designed green and white theme. The addition of a resealable “Dreamcap” top is a big plus as well. All in all, it looks like a much more mature and appealing design. Definitely worth a try. Reviewed on: 11/1/2012
