Creamy Chocolate Fudge

Product Type:Functional: Protein Drinks and Supplements; Container: 11 oz tetrapak
BevNET Review: Orgain’s Creamy Chocolate Fudge is an organic meal replacement product that is packaged in an 11 oz. Tetra container. The first note of flavor is indeed a “creamy” note of chocolate, but from there, the flavor starts to fall somewhat flat, with an unidentifiable note of unpleasant flavor hitting your tongue. Now granted, there’s a lot of stuff in this drink, with whey protein, vitamins, veggies, fruit, DHA, soy and dairy, so the odds of masking it all are slim to none. However, it’s something that will definitely take some getting used to, so odds are that consumers will have to be bought into this drink’s health benefits in order to give it a try. From our tests, even half of a container was pretty filling, but if you do drink the whole 11 oz., you’ll get 255 calories, 7g of fat, 16g of protein, 2g of fiber, potassium, and loads of nutrients. While it does have an aftertaste, it’s a natural rather than chemical flavor, which definitely helps our tolerance for it. Lastly, there’s the packaging, which is busy looking Tetra container. They’ve left the top and bottom areas the container silver, while the middle is white, which is where they’ve placed the text and graphic elements. It’s pleasant looking, but borders on looking like a supplement product. That’s partially due to the product’s name, but, more importantly, the fact that the “meal replacement” tag is so far away from the logo. Making that tighter and more obvious would certainly be a step in the right direction as otherwise, this product’s likely to be confused as something else. Overall, there are a few flaws in the product’s execution, but we’re fans of what they’re trying to achieve.

Sweet Vanilla Bean

Product Type:Functional: Protein Drinks and Supplements; Container: 11 oz tetrapak
BevNET Review: For us, it’s a tossup between Orgain’s Sweet Vanilla Bean and Creamy Chocolate Fudge flavors. It has a sort of milk and soy flavor to the base, making its primary flavor very similar in style to that of a vanilla soy milk. However, there’s a weird aftertaste that hits your tongue immediately after, which is clearly an unintended consequence of all of the nutritional ingredients that have been added to the drink. Like its counterpart, this product is loaded with protein (16g), vitamins, minerals, omega-3 and amino acids. In fact, reading and making sense of the nutrition panel and ingredients list for this product will certainly take some time and patience. Ultimately, the drink appears to work, making you feel full, nourished, and energized after consuming a single 11 oz. container. So in that sense, we’ll give it our seal of approval – but we still wish that they could improve upon the flavor. On the packaging front, they’ve done a good job of making a pedestrian Tetra Pak container look and feel healthy. There’s a lot of text on the front panel, making some of it easy to glance over, including one of the most important bits of info: this is a meal replacement drink. Improving the placement of this text should be a priority – even if some of the other text has to go. Fixing this (and perhaps working on the aftertaste) would make for a much improved product.
