BevNET Review: Overboard is a hangover recovery drink that features what the marketer describes as “essential ingredients” for getting you “back up to speed.” Functionally, the drink contains electrolytes, vitamin C, B vitamins, milk thistle, willow bark, N-acetyl-L-cysteine, and prickly pear extract. From a flavor perspective, the fructose, sucralose, and ace-k sweetened mixture has what we’d describe as a citrus prickly pear flavor, with a heavy note of vitamins to the finish. The sweetener blend keeps the product to 25 calories per 8 oz. serving, which is certainly a nice selling point. While the brand name “Overboard” seems appropriate for a product of this type and the design is relatively clean, there’s something about it that fails to excite us or expect anything other than a medicinal flavor to the liquid inside. Given that this is a hangover product with electrolytes, a bottle that looks more like a sports drink might be more appropriate. With the current packaging, it looks like a product without a category. Overall, Overboard surprised us with its enjoyable flavor and recovery formulation, but the branding isn’t quite there yet.
