BevNET Review: Unlike Pepsi’s Throwback products that were simultaneously launched with Pepsi Natural, this is a completely original effort on the part of Pepsi. What you’ve got here is a pretty nice tasting cola, which has added kola nut extract into what appears to be a slightly modified cola base. That, along with sugar in place of high fructose corn syrup, explains why this product tastes so superior to Pepsi’s other cola offering. The product has a moderate level of sweetness, a light amount of carbonation (compared to regular Pepsi Cola), and a slightly earthy flavor to the finish. Packaging is a curved 12 oz. glass bottle etched with the new Pepsi logo. Between this design and the fact that it’s in glass, this product is very attractive and eye catching. On the other hand, calling it “natural” seems like a move that takes an unnecessary jab at the flagship line. Plus, it’s not as good as what we saw Pepsi produce for the UK, Pepsi Raw. However, it’s a huge step in the right direction for a company that has watched its flagship brand erode while consumers seek better, healthier, and more premium alternatives. Overall, this is Pepsi’s best cola to hit the US market to date – we hope it sticks around for a while.
