Pepsi Raw

Product Type: Carbonated Soft Drink: Regular; Container: 300 ml glass
BevNET Review: What you have here is hands down the best Pepsi product that we've ever sampled. Using premium ingredients, including cane sugar and plant extracts, this product has a very refined, crisp, and enjoyable flavor that offers more than the just being sugar sweetened. It's a lighter bodied drink than regular Pepsi Cola, much in the same vein as some of the other premium colas, with a slightly earthy note to the finish. Packaging is modern and extremely attractive, with a crown-topped curved glass bottle that has raised waves around the grip area of the bottle. The name "Raw" is a very good one, giving the product a chic feeling, adding intrigue / mystique, and ultimately being a good descriptor of what's inside the bottle. Overall, this is an extremely enjoyable product that we'd love to see in wider scale distribution.

Interesting....

Pepsi Raw is something of a 'halfway house' in terms of flavour and mouthfeel. It's much more interesting to drink in every respect that standard Pepsi etc but it doesn't have that true depth of flavour and complexity you get from Fentiman's Curiosity Cola. What I liked about Pepsi Raw is it's only lightly carbonated so feels pleasant in the mouth without distracting from the flavour. The strongest flavour that runs through the whole thing is ginger- lemony-ginger at the start with earthy-ginger toward the end. It's not oversweet as well which does make it refreshing. There is a slightly 'dry' aftertaste that I couldn't quite decide if I liked or didn't like. In truth, this is the kind of drink I'd be happy to presented with instead of beer when driving. Instead I have to put up with nasty syrup-reconstituted no-brand cola in my local pub.

Pepsi RAW : Great improvement, but can be bettered

Pepsi RAW. Catchy name, suggesting a gritty, down to earth, simple flavour. And, suprisingly, it delivers. Prior to tasting, I glanced at the ingredients, and noted that they where ery similar to Whole Earth Cola, with apple instead of lemon juice, but both containing natural cola nut extract. This shows, as the flavour is very similar to the Whole Earth cola, with a similar zesty aftertaste. However, it still manages to keep a little of the artificial bitterness of regular Pepsi, and although the cane sugar makes it taste far more interesting than the normal Pepsi, it is a little too sweet for my liking, so loses a star against the Whole Earth Brand. Still, altogether a very enjoyable and refreshing drink, and an enormous improvement on regular Pepsi. If they could just keep the cost to within a 20% premium on normal pepsi, I would switch permeanently. Nb; I am writing from the uk, and the Whole Earth cola may not be available elswhere, but as far as I am concerned, it is the closest competitor.

I thought I would try this as it was on offer in the local sainsburys. Initially i thought it tasted like any other cola drink.. i have a poor tongue that is unable to distingush subtle differences. However this drink has left me feeling abit sick and queesy and its not worth the sacrifice of the traditional pepsi max. I really can't see it taking off thought the idea is a good one.

might be a problem

Sounds like a great product but I think it may create some problems if it receives wider distribution. Just like the electric car was scrapped by auto comapnies because it made gasoline cars look bad, this product will mae regular pepsi look bad. So this is the healthy, natural pepsi and the other one is the crappy one. Pepsi can't afford to make a wide scale switch to cane sugar in the US, not while corn is subsidized so heavily.
