PJ's Crystal Beach Loganberry

PJ's Crystal Beach Loganberry

Manufacturer's Brand Overview [Edit]

A non-carbonated fruit drink, made from the loganberry, which is an actual berry that is a cross between a blackberry and a red raspberry. The loganberry drink was introduced at Crystal Beach amusement park in Southern Ontario, Canada, in the 1940’s. PJ’s Crystal Beach Loganberry is a refreshing alternative to carbonated drinks, non-carbonated teas and flavored waters now on the market and also comes in a Diet version. Both are caffeine free, low in sodium, with vitamin C added, and offer a thirst quenching flavor. The Diet Loganberry does not contain aspartame and is sweetened with surcalose.

Product Type:Juice: Juice Drink; Container: 20 fl oz plastic (591 ml)
BevNET Review: This product has the same problems as Crystal Beach Original Loganberry, but it’s a diet version. The fruit flavor is still bland and indistinct, and for some reason, the drink tastes kind of salty. Having tried it twice, now, we think there’s something seriously wrong with the mix in the product.Reviewed on: 7/13/2006

Original

Product Type:Juice: Juice Drink; Container: 20 fl oz plastic (591 ml)
BevNET Review: Unfortunately, the original medium for Crystal Beach’s loganberry juice is this unexciting, too-sweet fruit drink that really suffers in comparison to its newly carbonated stable-mate. The flavor has an unpleasant touch of salt, in addition to a bland, none-too-subtle formulation. The packaging is also fairly generic, although we do like the raised patterning on the PET plastic bottle. An improvement – but only somewhat.Reviewed on: 7/13/2006

Sparkling Loganberry

Product Type:Carbonated Soft Drink: Regular; Container: 20 fl oz plastic (591 ml)
BevNET Review: Well, you could have knocked us over with a feather. In launching a sparkling version of its loganberry drink, Crystal Beach has taken what had been a rather unimpressive fruit drink and turned it into a truly sandwich-worthy soda along the lines of a black cherry or blueberry. The shot of carbonation gives the concentrated loganberry juice a much-needed edge, and creates a tasty soda that can rival any of the mainstream fruit CSDs. Of course, we’d prefer real sugar to the corn syrup Crystal Beach is using here, and we’d rather see loganberries on the label than a nondescript, empty beach, but it just goes to show what a little CO2 can do.Reviewed on: 7/13/2006
