Plan Tea’s Masala Chai is a nice dairy-free play on a classic spiced chai tea. In the case of this product, the company has blended spices (anise, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, and ginger) along with black tea, honey, and citric acid. The use of honey is restrained (there are 14g of sugars per bottle) and gives the product a really exceptional flavor that complements the spices quite nicely. The tea seems like more of a background flavor in this particular variety, with the spices really taking center stage -- which makes sense for a chai tea. All in all, we really like this product. It’s low in calories and sugars and has plenty of flavor. On the outside, this is definitely one of Plan Tea's stronger-looking flavors, thanks to the short flavor name not taking up too much in the way of real estate. Still, we feel like their white callout box puts the focus on the wrong aspects of the product (freshly brewed and dairy free). Lastly, there’s the much improved callout for the charitable cause that gives Plan Tea its name. The company now uses a custom cap with a large “5%” graphic (a reference to their annual donation of 5 percent of net sales) and there’s better explanatory text on the back of the label. Overall, nit picking aside, this is a really nice addition to Plan Tea's lineup.
