Tropical Coconut Water

Product Type:Juice: Coconut Water and Juice; Container: 16.9 oz PET
BevNET Review: Despite having a gold tint to the liquid and containing 25 percent juice, this product’s “tropical” flavor appears to be derived completely from flavoring. The juice content is exclusively from coconut water (from concentrate), but its flavor is masked by the tropical fruit flavoring (which has a heavy pineapple note) and stevia that have been added to the drink. And with 80 calories per bottle, we’d honestly expect it to taste better than it does. Functionally the product has 4g of fiber per bottle as well as various vitamins (A, C, Bs), with the main goal of the product being to function as a “probiotic enhancer.” Packaging is a 16.9 oz. PET bottle, which has a square shape and a tapered center. While we like the look of the bottle, the quality of the label leaves something to be desired (it looks pixelated and blurry in spots). Overall, we like the concept, but the drink’s execution could definitely be improved. Reviewed on: 6/3/2011

Cranberry Raspberry

Product Type:Juice: Juice Drink; Container: 16.9 oz PET
BevNET Review: One of several zero calorie formulations that make up the PRE lineup, Cranberry Raspberry is a stevia sweetened fruit flavored beverage with prebiotic benefits. The flavor is pleasing, at least compared to other zero calorie beverages, with a decent note of raspberry flavor to the mix. The stevia is noticeable, but not overbearing, which is definitely a good thing. Still, we’d like more cranberry flavor to be present in the mix. And we’d like a little more variety (aside from Peach Mango) between the three berry flavored zero calorie offerings – they are way too similar tasting. Functionally, the product has the exact same prebiotic content (inulin) as the other PRE products. The only variables are the vitamin and mineral content, which has vitamins A, B vitamins, and calcium. Packaging follows the traditional format of using a white background to signify a diet offering. The big “ZERO” text makes it easy to quickly identify, but it looks almost identical to Powerade Zero’s treatment of the word. Overall, a good line extension that we honestly prefer over some of their other hybrid sweetened products. Reviewed on: 6/3/2011

Passion Orange Guava

Product Type:Juice: Fruit Juice; Container: 16.9 oz PET
BevNET Review: The Passion Orange Guava flavor of Pre is a very pleasant tasting 5 percent juice drink that has 50 calories per serving, is enhanced with vitamins, and contains a proprietary prebiotic blend. The flavor is exactly what we’d expect from a sugar sweetened passion orange guava drink, complete with a bright tropical citrus flavor that’s finished with a touch of guava. It’s not too sweet, which is a big plus, while the addition of vitamins and the digestive benefits of the prebiotic content make this a well rounded drink that’s also USDA Organic certified. Packaging is a 16.9 oz. rectangular hot fill bottle, which has been given a tapered shape and utilizes a sleeve label. We like the look of the PRE logo and, despite feeling somewhat busy, the product manages to have a clean and wholesome looking front panel. Plus, it’s appealing to the appetite, thanks to the use of easy to spot fruit images. Overall, we really like this product’s flavor, packaging, and function – it’s the complete package.Reviewed on: 2/1/2010

Pomegranate Blueberry (10 calorie)

Product Type:Juice: Fruit Juice; Container: 16.9 oz PET
BevNET Review: Compared to its counterpart that is exclusively sweetened with sugar, this 10 calorie version of Pomegranate Blueberry, which uses a sugar and stevia mix, is actually not that far off, flavor-wise. Yes, there is a certainly amount of stevia flavor and aftertaste to it, but it’s leaps ahead of products that are exclusively sweetened with stevia. Otherwise, we’d basically echo the same comments that we had about its counterpart, namely that there aren’t enough visual indicators to differentiate the two. Currently, only the cap and a small badge on the front of the label, which would require close examination, actually state that it’s 10 calories. Making the badge on the front label larger would likely be a sufficient step. In terms of this specific product, having a low calorie profile, vitamins, enjoyable flavor, and digestive health benefits make for something that should be appealing over traditional juice cocktails. Definitely worth a try. Reviewed on: 2/1/2010

Acerola Acai

Product Type:Juice: Fruit Juice; Container: 16.
BevNET Review: Marketed as acai and acerola cherry flavored, this product has more of a cherry punch flavor to it, with acerola, apple, and lime juices (5 percent juice)supplemented with acai extract and natural flavors. Cherry definitely takes center stage, followed by less distinguishable fruit flavors in a formulation that’s sugar sweetened. That’s okay by us, especially since what they have created is enjoyable and smooth. The drink’s function relies on the addition of a proprietary blend of prebiotics as well as B vitamins and Vitamin A, with the emphasis on digestion and wellness. For the uninitiated, it might be helpful to have this function called out on the front of the bottle rather than the side, but otherwise we really like the look of the product. It has a sort of hip but sporty vibe to it, with a clear tone of health and wellness. In addition, the fruit imagery makes the product appeal to your senses, which is always a plus in any beverage. Overall, a very enjoyable tasting product that delivers credible functionality in a nice looking bottle.Reviewed on: 2/1/2010

Pomegranate Yumberry

Product Type:Juice: Fruit Juice; Container: 16.9 oz PET
BevNET Review: Relying on a blend of sugar and stevia, Pomegranate Yumberry is one of PRE’s lower calorie formulations (10 per serving). Made with a 2 percent juice blend of grape, pomegranate, and yumberry, this flavor doesn’t has as much fruit flavor as some of the other flavors in the line. The presence of stevia is obvious, although not unpleasant, while the fruit flavors are not easily distinguishable aside from the grape juice. However, this is a problem that we see in most products claiming pomegranate and yumberry flavors, so in this case, it’s purely average. Like the rest of the line, this product uses the proprietary Jarrow blend of prebiotics, as well as vitamins, to promote digestive wellness. Factoring that in, this product certainly has a leg up on other products that are delivering the same flavor without these added benefits. As for the drink’s exterior, we like the look of the 16.9 oz. tapered bottle. They’ve done a nice job of creating a label that simultaneously feels functional and looks appetizing. Achieving this happy medium seems key to a product like this not being mistaken for just another juice or relegated to the supplement aisle. Overall, there’s certainly room to improve the flavor, but otherwise we really like what they’ve done so far. Reviewed on: 2/1/2010

Pomegranate Blueberry

Product Type:Juice: Fruit Juice; Container: 16.9 oz PET
BevNET Review: Of the sugar sweetened flavors, Pomegranate Blueberry was our favorite (it’s also available in a 10 calorie version). Utilizing a 5% juice blend of grape, pomegranate, lemon, and blueberry, the product has natural tasting fruit flavor and is sugar sweetened. At 50 calories per serving, it’s not that strong, which makes it go down easy and should have appeal with the adult consumer. However, if they were to change the formulation at all, it would be nice to have a bit more blueberry in the mix as the flavors currently blend together a bit too much. The drink uses a prebiotic blend that was created by Jarrow’s, an LA based supplier of nutritional supplements. From our point of view, having a formulation that’s created by specialists in the nutrition field adds credibility over a formula that’s otherwise of unknown origin. We hope to see more marketers take this approach. Packaging is appealing, with images of fruit that have been interlaced with a bottle shape and logo that feel sporty. However, there isn’t enough to distinguish between this product’s full calorie and low calorie variations, which will almost certainly result in confusion at the retail level. Minor blemishes aside, this is an extremely enjoyable product.Reviewed on: 2/1/2010
