Premier Protein’s Chocolate flavored protein drink comes packaged in both a 14 oz. PET bottle and an 11 oz. Tetra Pak carton, with the PET version being a slightly thinned out version (nearly identical nutrition facts, but a 14 oz. vs 11 oz. serving). Nutritionally, the product has 30g of protein (derived from milk and whey proteins), 2g sugar, 160 calories, and 24 vitamins and minerals. The low fat and carb formulation is definitely a nice approach to the space, delivering something that should have pretty broad appeal. From a taste perspective, it’s quite easy to drink, with a clean and smooth chocolate flavor, but doesn’t have that an overly viscous body (it’s about as thick as low-fat chocolate milk). The product uses a blend of sucralose and ace-k, which gives it a nice amount of sweetness. However, there’s still some aftertaste to the product. Visually, it’s easily identifiable as a protein drink (the name and large callout give it away) and we think they’ve done a nice job of creating a design that says both “this is good for you” and “this tastes good.” However, the Premier Protein brand seems like it skews towards the technical end of the spectrum, which might make it blend in with other brands depending on where it is being sold. Nitpicking aside, we think that this a solid entry into the category.
