Protegy Protein Energy Drink

Product Type:Functional: Energy Supplement; Container: 12 oz can
BevNET Review: Protegy is, as the name subtly suggests, a protein enhanced energy drink. Featuring a light berry flavor and 25g of protein, the product has a mildly sweet flavor that has the distinctly bitter flavor of added protein. It’s sweetened with sucralose, although there isn’t much in the way of the aftertaste (thanks to the bitterness of the protein), and the addition of carbonation gives the product some crispness. All in all, it’s an enjoyable product to drink, especially when factoring in the 25g of protein. On the energy front, the product has 80mg of caffeine (per 12 ounce), ginseng, and B vitamins, making it a bit lighter (at least on the caffeine front) than your typical energy drink. On the packaging front, the product uses a slim 12 ounce can that has a dark black background and a circle pattern cutting through the front panel. The name Protegy is certainly clever and memorable, while prime placement of “25g whey protein” is hard to miss. However, the backdrop behind the label is hard on the eyes and we think that a simple black background would be more effective. Also, the coat-of-arms style logo, which is currently placed on the back of the can, might be a better fit for the front of the can. This would give the product a touch of personality and a visual element that its currently lacking. Overall, we really like the concept and the flavor is drinkable – but the branding needs some refinement.
