BevNET Review: Like the other flavors of Muscle Milk’s Protein H2O, this product’s strongest attribute is in its smooth, mainstream flavor. It’s sugar-free, using sucralose as its sweetener of choice, but the product doesn’t suffer from much in the way of aftertaste. That’s a big deal for protein drinks, which typically suffer from bitter protein flavor and, in the case of artificially sweetened products, sweetener aftertaste. The raspberry flavor is good, but nothing out of the ordinary, with a tartness that seems to counterbalance the underlying protein taste. On the functionality front, the product clocks in at 10g of protein and 5g of fiber per 16 oz. bottle. While this is good as far as mainstream protein drinks go, it’s lower than some of the heavier supplement products out there. So, this is a product that’s probably going to be most appealing with a mainstream consumer – which seems to be exactly what they are going for. Looking at the packaging, it’s again a very mainstream effort, with a clean look that’s easy on the eyes. While it doesn’t have much in the way of images or slogans, the product is very easy to read and understand quickly. Plus, it has the Muscle Milk logo, which should give it some credibility right out of the gate. Overall, an enjoyable mainstream effort. Reviewed on: 9/23/2010

BevNET Review: While this product doesn’t have as much protein as some of the other protein enhanced beverages out there (it has 10g per bottle – others have 20+), it certainly sets the bar in terms of flavor. Specifically, this product is extremely smooth and it lacks the protein bitterness found in so many protein drinks. The grapefruit flavor is a good pairing, helping to hide the protein flavor and the artificial sweetener used in the drink (sucralose). We think that they’ve done a great job of coming up with something that the mainstream consumer will find enjoyable to drink while still delivering a modest hit of protein. And the mainstream is exactly who this drink seems to be targeted at, based on the level of protein that they’ve put in the product as well their relationship with Pepsi. On the outside, the product is clean and easy to read, with prime placement of the Muscle Milk logo something that will definitely help it catch eyes on the shelf. It’s not the most visually impressive product that we’ve ever seen, but we think that it’s a respectable effort nonetheless. Overall, this is a well-executed product that’s one of the better enhanced water entries that we’ve seen in a while.Reviewed on: 9/23/2010
