Red Bull’s “The Summer Edition” is the fourth entry to the company's Editions line of flavored energy drinks. This one has a very sweet (it’s made with sucrose) and pleasant tasting tropical fruit flavor that should certainly taste familiar to anyone who has sampled their share of energy drink products. It skews more towards the soda end of the spectrum than the flavor profile that made Red Bull the worldwide success that it is. This is a pretty interesting move for the brand considering that countless brands have attempted (and failed) to use almost this exact flavor profile to compete with Red Bull. That said, it’s not exactly a very innovative product, but it’s one that helps the brand get one more slot in a cooler that’s likely to be filled with countless offerings from Red Bull’s competition. Visually, we like the sharp yellow color, but the silver used on the logo on the text (which are unpainted areas) prove somewhat hard to read. We wish that some of Red Bull’s core branding could be better incorporated into the Editions line. Overall, it’s a good product that's buttoned up in its execution, but it’s also a product that is, especially at this stage of the energy drink market, somewhat hard to get excited about.
