The Relaxzen “Night” formula starts with the same sucralose and ace-K sweetened flavor as its “Day” counterpart, but delivers a different functional cocktail. This being the Night formula, it’s designed to “promote sleep”, which it accomplishes primarily through the use of valerian root and melatonin, two non-pharmaceutical sleep aids. They’ve also kept the GABA and L-theanine in the mix, but the formulation is also supplemented with chamomile extract and L-threonine. Ultimately, the consumer’s perception of the drink’s function will, like most functional drinks, vary based on their own response to these ingredients. From our point of view, selling sleep in a bottle is an interesting concept, although one that probably can’t compete with the likes of sleeping pills and other more potent remedies. Plus, there’s only so often that someone is likely to want to consume a drink to aid sleep, whereas the Day variety could certainly become a part of someone’s daily regimen. On the packaging front, they’ve again done a nice job of making a package that’s clean and easy to read, although it lacks on the personality front compared to some of the competition. Overall, a well executed effort , but we suspect that the day time formula will have more legs to it.
