As a cola drinker; Rockstar cola held a very special niche in my beverage consumption habits, but then the distributors in the pacnorwest took it off the shevles.
This is a really great cola, I just wish Coca-Cola had not started distributing this to get rid of it and then dump them after they discontinued it. I had it on vacation and it never even got here.
Has kine of a cola like taste but it's hard to determine whether it fits into the cola or energy drink category... The taste is certainly considered "consumeable" but not really rocking either
Being a fan of the regular rockstar, I finally found the Cola and decided to give it a try and was very happy with it. The taste is great and hits the spot while not being over powerful like coca cola and pepsi that have alot of carbonation. All I can say is rockstar hit it on the spot with this drink and now my favorite of the 3 and will buy this over the regular version if its available.
Taste - Well it tastes like cola basically, an exceptionally good cola at that. It seems to have more depth to its flavor than standard cola, and doesn't taste as cheap. Certainly much better than the big brand crap idiots consume by the gallons. I will admit though that I prefer energy drinks to taste different from regular soda though. Energy -Same as Rockstar. Decent. Design - Kind of dull really. Maybe thats why its not more popular.
I like the flavor of it before the absolutely intense rush of energy drink like flavor. It's like a huge rush to your brain to go into a seizure....Good taste overall, and it did keep me up all night (trying to claw my eyeballs out of my head..)
I first tried this ahwile before it hit the shelves one day when my drink rep. came in the store touting Rock Star's latest formulation. I was a bit skeptical at first of an energy cola, but I eagerly tried it when he dropped the sample off.
The overall taste is a bit reminescent of Jolt Cola. Its a slightly dry, light bodied cola, with a decent flavor and fairly smooth and drinkable. It doesn't really have that tart bite that most energy drinks give, but more of a mellow cola that isn't overly syrupy.
One thing that reminded me of Jolt was the slight bitterish aftertaste. They did a good job masking the 'energy' addictives, but you get a subtle hint of it in the flavor. But, its balanced very well and despite that it doesn't come off as offensive or unpleasant at all.
Overall, I think the taste is smoother and easier to drink than the original Rock Star, however I'm not a huge cola drinker, so its not that appealing to me, but its good regardless. I suspect they will draw in more of a cola crowd with this one, and still maintain the energy drink fans with the original formula.
I would be lying if I said Rockstar did a crappy job with this drink. I drank it about 2 weeks ago and was impressed, but the flavor still didn't seem appealing enough to make an impact. The red can design is definately more eye catching and appealing than the first two, but rockstar still has a long way to go. I don't think this cola, or rockstar in general will go mainstream because of its taste. Let's face it, the taste is not very appealing and most are disgusted by it. I disagree however. I do not see any big things for this drink, but still better than rockstar itself, so I'd guess I'd be willing to give it another go.
