Rubyy Energy Drink

BevNET Review: Like its non-diet counterpart, Diet Rubyy’s biggest and most obvious point of difference is its 12 oz. aluminum bottle. While the phrase “energy drink” is written in small font along the bottom, it’s a package that we’d probably guess belongs to some sort of functional drink. They’ve also followed the standard convention of using a lighter color (in this case, white) for their diet variety. Inside the bottle, there’s base of 8 percent juice (orange, blood orange, and tangerine) that’s been sweetened with sucralose and ace-k. The product has a surprisingly light flavor profile, leaving a somewhat bitter fruit flavor behind. Functionally, the product has taurine, caffeine, guarana, and B-vitamins, giving it the appearance of being on par with other drinks in the energy category. So what do we think? Our biggest concern about the original variety was the lack of fruit juice flavor – and unfortunately we have the same concern about this product. Another concern was the placement of the words “energy drink," which, again, doesn't catch the eye (we’d eliminated “Lightly Carbonated” and make the font bigger). So while Rubyy diet’s packaging is aesthetically pleasing from afar, it requires examination when picked up. However, that issue is small compared to the flavor, which right now has an insufficient amount of sweetness and fruit flavor to fit the bill for us. Overall, we conceptually like this product, but the execution needs some help.Reviewed on: 8/12/2009
