BevNET Review: Designed to be consumed as a 2 ounce “shot,” Rushmore Superfood is a blend of almost 25 fruit juices. The goal of the drink is anti-aging, with a variety of superfruits, including sea buckthorn and maqui berry, that are already being marketed for their supposed anti-aging benefits. Of course, a drink loaded with fruit juice is also loaded with vitamin content – each 2 ounce shot has over a dozen vitamins and minerals. From a flavor perspective, this product is pretty innocuous compared to other superfruit shots that we’ve sampled. It’s tart and sweet, with notes of pomegranate, grape, cherry, and apple making for a formulation that we could easily consume more than 2 ounces of. The packaging, on the other hand, leaves many questions, starting with their choice of a 750ml wine bottle. Branding features a silhouette of Mount Rushmore with the heads of various retired Southern California professional athletes. This approach is something that’s hard to understand, especially since James Worthy (wearing his trademark glasses) is the only one who is likely to be immediately recognized. We understand their goal of trying to use retired athletes with a demographic that’s in the market for an anti-aging beverage, but the lack of recognition makes it fall short. Overall, it’s definitely one of the more palatable superfruit shots that we’ve had, but we feel as though improved packaging and branding would help this product out a lot.Reviewed on: 5/10/2011
