Lemon Myst

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 20 fl oz (591 ml) PET
BevNET Review: Lemon Myst was our least favorite flavor of the Samurai Energy Tea lineup. This product suffers from having a vaguely lemon-flavored body that doesn't do a great job of covering up the flavors left behind by the funcional ingredients. In addition, the honey flavor is simply too strong for the lemon and green tea that also flavor this product. Overall, we think that Lemon Myst lacks the balance that was found in the other flavors. It's a shame considering that there are a lot of good things in here -- green tea, sugar, honey, taurine, guarana -- and we think this formula can be made to work. In addition, we like the packaging and the Samurai name as it's a more funky and original look than we've seen in prior offerings from Le-Natures.Reviewed on: 5/18/2006

Original

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 20 fl oz (591 ml) PET
BevNET Review: Samurai Energy Tea is most definitely an original concept. LeNature’s has taken green tea and mixed in sugar and honey, plus a pile of energy ingredients like guarana and taurine. As a result, it tastes more like energy than tea -- which may or may not be what was intended. Regardless, what you have here is something that is sweet with honey and energy flavors and is delivered in a way that is unique to the energy/functional beverage categories. We like the name “Samurai,” because Samurai are cool, and it evokes a need for energy in terms of supporting ones ability to carry on swordplay. And the label, with a samurai outlined against a rising sun, is suitably Eastern. The real question -- and it may be of paramount importance to this brand -- is whether or not consumers will go looking to the tea shelf and end up purchasing one focused on energy rather than the tea itself.Reviewed on: 5/1/2006

Raspberry

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 20 fl oz (591 ml) PET
BevNET Review: Without a doubt, this is the best flavor of Le-Nature's Samurai brand. The flavor, which is a raspberry flavored green tea, does an exceptional job of masking the energy additives in the product. Sweetened with sugar and honey, Le-Nature's used the good stuff -- and it shows -- the honey adds extra depth to the body. Take the Samurai brand for whatever you want, but in our opinion it has the most personality of any brand produced by Le-Natures to date. Overall, Raspberry Samurai is a great tasting, attractive looking product with definite mainstream potential, especially when you consider that it is both refreshing and functional.Reviewed on: 5/1/2006
