Saratoga Juice Bar is a line of cold-pressed and high-pressure processed (HPP) juices that currently features four varieties. The products come from Saratoga Springs, New York, which the company describes (via its web site) as a center for wellness. 

Still, there’s something about a line of cold-pressed juices from upstate N.Y. that seems a bit, well, strange. While it’s nice to see a product that is being made and marketed within the Northeast region, many of the ingredients are obviously not from that area. That really only matters since the product is raw, begging the question of whether it’s better to have your food travelling over long distances OR if it’s better to have the ingredients that make your food travelling over long distances. 

Either way, what’s inside the bottle is enjoyable, but familiar, and they all feel somewhat interchangeable with other cold-pressed juice brands. They’ve covered all of the standard flavors that you’ll find in most every cold-pressed juice brand: carrot orange (Saratoga Detox), greens (Spirit of Life), beets (Heart Beets), and lemon ginger (Big Shot). After sampling the products, we’re probably most fond of the Saratoga Detox and the Big Shot. These two have the sharpest and most memorable flavors.  The Saratoga Detox, which is made with pineapple, carrot, orange, and ginger, was our favorite, as the combination of the four gives it a bright flavor. The only disappointment was Spirit of Life. While we’re okay with the lack of sweetness (it has 8g of sugar compared with 20-21g in the others), we felt it lacked balance. 

Perhaps the best thing about this product is its choice of a 10 oz. bottle. This is a very nice alternative to the larger sizes that you’ll find with most other brands. Realistically, it’s a portion size that is, unless you are going on a juice cleanse, pretty manageable and great for a pick-me-up.  However, the branding feels easy to miss. The clear-label-with-white-text routine has been done by plenty of cold-pressed juice brands; they need to do a better job of establishing their identity.  As it currently stands, your eye quickly scans down to the flavor name and list of ingredients and the Saratoga brand is easy to miss. 

Ultimately, this is one of those product lines that is perfectly fine in terms of its ability to deliver what it has set out to do. However, if it’s going to stack up against the competition -- or play in retail locations where there are several cold-pressed brands -- it will definitely need to up its game.
