Secret Squirrel Cold Brew Coffee is an upstart company from the Los Angeles area whose product currently comes in concentrate form (other varieties are supposedly in the works). The product has only two ingredients: water and organic and fair trade coffee beans. The “secret” is the selection of beans (a blend of types) and the process of making the product, which they say involves cold brewing for 18 to 24 hours, double filtering, and bottling. The resulting liquid is extremely potent to the point where they recommend that you mix two parts milk or water with one part Secret Squirrel (other cold brews are typically a one to one mix). Still, the coffee is extremely smooth and has no bitterness (even when consumed straight -- yes, we’re slightly crazy), so you know that they are doing something right. All in all, this is definitely one of the best cold brew coffees that we’ve sampled. On the outside, the product utilizes a dark amber bottle, which has pretty much become the bottle of choice for cold brew coffee. However, compared with other brands that are doing more of a vintage thing with their brand, Secret Squirrel has gone for something with a bit more personality and playfulness. The execution is top notch, with a simple two color design that’s both aesthetically pleasing and quite easy to understand. Overall, an awesome product with solid execution on both the inside and outside of the bottle.
