Pomegranate and kombucha is, just like ginger, lemon and kombucha, one of those combinations that is becoming a mainstay of the category. In the case of Sierra Kombucha’s Peak Pomegranate, the product has a bold, but balanced, flavor, with the tartness of the pomegranate nicely complementing the vinegar-like flavor of the kombucha base. Sierra lists only two ingredients (kombucha and pomegranate juice), which is a little bit of a disappointment since it tells you almost nothing about the kombucha being used. Fortunately, the beverage tastes good, so at least the company has a good foundation to start with. Visually, the product definitely needs some work. We’re not overly fond of the vinegar bottle style package (do consumers really need another reminder that it tastes like vinegar?) or the design that Sierra has created. It has a very homespun look, which might be fine for local natural markets and such, but it will be impossible for this brand to stack up against more strongly branded products. Coming up with something more visually appealing should definitely be a top priority for this product. Overall, good stuff, but it would be much better if it had a more attractive look and some more copy describing the product.
