BevNET Review: Silence Tea’s “Lemon Serenity” has the tagline “balance your inner power chakra.” It’s a mixture of decaffeinated black tea, lemon flavor, sugar, L-theanine, chamomile and added vitamins and antioxidants. From a flavor point of view, it’s an enjoyable tasting tea, although one that’s certainly of the same vein as countless other tea beverages that have gone before it. At 120 calories and 30g of sugar per 16 ounce bottle, it’s pretty close to the mainstream players, despite its decidedly health & natural food oriented appearance. That could be the downfall for this product, especially since the type of consumer who’s going to care about chakra specific formulations is already familiar with brands like Honest Tea and Sweet Leaf. And we don’t think that they’ve done enough to make even those consumers leave these brands for chakra specific formulations. Overall, we like what’s inside the bottle, but we don’t think that this flavor has enough meaningful differentiation to compete in the crowded tea category.Reviewed on: 12/28/2009

Green Tranquility-Awake Your Heart Chakra (Honey Green Tea With Ginseng)

BevNET Review: This flavor, which is a honey-flavored green tea with ginseng, was our favorite of the Silence Tea lineup. From a flavor point of view, they’ve done an excellent job, creating the perfect balance of honey and green tea flavors. It’s sweet, but not too sweet, with a slight grassy note letting you know that quality green tea went into this beverage. The same can be said for the honey, which adds that natural-but-earthy flavor that’s more wholesome tasting than straight sugar. However, once we get beyond the flavor, our romance with this product is short-lived. They’ve enhanced the product with Vitamin C, antioxidants, chamomile, and theanine, with the emphasis being on calming, relaxation, and wellness, but these are things that can be found in countless other tea products. In addition, we’re not fans of the “Silence Tea” name, which to us seems more appropriate for a product that’s going to help you sleep than a product whose function is primarily refreshment. Plus, we think that the large image on the front part of the label gives the drink a crowded look – and it leaves little room to explain what the flavor of the drink is. Overall, we’re huge fans of the drink’s flavor, but the branding and positioning definitely need work.Reviewed on: 12/28/2009
