Citrus Red Tea

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 oz can
BevNET Review: Citrus Red Tea Energy Drink is another solid entry from Slap. The product has a light tea flavor that tastes like a mixture of red tea and mate, both of which are present in the drink. The citrus flavor adds a mellow note to the body of the drink, while a taste of the added functional ingredients hits your tongue on the way out. Plus, they’ve cut the product with sucralose, which helps keep the calories slightly lower than if they had exclusively used sugar. From an energy point of view, the product gets the job done, with a blend of nine ingredients (caffeine, taurine, guarana, B vitamins and more) that have been crafted to create sustained energy. While it’s hard to say whether or not we had long-lasting energy from the product, we definitely felt buzzed from the product. On the outside, they’ve created a nice looking product, with easy to read text surrounding the large red Slap logo. However, the “multi-stage energy supplement” text seems like it should go somewhere less prominent given it’s slightly more serious tone. Overall, a really enjoyable product.Reviewed on: 9/22/2009

Crisp Apple Green Tea

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 oz can
BevNET Review: Brain Twist has paired green tea with apple flavor, which gives the product a flavor that's quite different than other green tea energy drinks that we've sampled. It starts off with a pleasant tasting apple flavor, which is then followed by tea (green and yerba mate) before finally finishing a slight dose of energy flavor. It's pretty well executed, with the revised formula having a much more pleasant apple flavor than the original variety. The same can be said for the revised packaging, which has a much more polished look and feel than the original. They’ve replaced the old smiley face logo with a new block letter logo, which is easier to read and more professional looking. In addition, the new design features a silver band around the middle of the can with the text placed on darker bands at the top and bottom. That greatly helps the readability of the product – and makes it nice looking to boot. Overall, this product has a nice balance of flavor, kick, and appearance – and it’s very enjoyable as a result.Reviewed on: 9/22/2009

Frost Low Calorie

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Diet; Container: 16 oz can
BevNET Review: The only low calorie flavor of the Slap Energy line, Low Calorie Frost Sensation is a 10 calorie version of its similarly named counterpart. In this case, they’ve dialed down the sugar to 3g and supplemented the product with acesulfame potassium and, like the other flavors, sucralose. This mix works surprisingly well, delivering flavor that’s not that far off from its full calorie counterpart. While there’s a slight amount of energy aftertaste, the “frost sensation” aspect of the product washes most of it away. And, of course, it has their “Energy 9.0” cocktail of energy ingredients, which in this flavor only includes 8 ingredients (isomaltulose, taurine, maltodextrin, caffeine, niacin, guarana, pyridoxine hydrochloride, cyanocobalamin). Either way, the caffeine punch, which is on par with other brands, is still there, as are the B vitamins. On the packaging front, the product follows the same format as the other Slap products, with a large block letter logo placed in the center of the front panel. They’ve put the words “low calorie” in the right place, too, making it easy for you to identify this product as a calorie reduced formula. Overall, we enjoyed this product quite a bit – and we’d honestly reach for this one over its full calorie counterpart.Reviewed on: 9/22/2009

Frost Regular

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 oz can
BevNET Review: From a flavor point of view, Slap’s “Frost Sensation” is the most unique of the lineup. That’s because the name “Frost” isn’t just a marketing ploy – the product’s flavor actually has a cooling sensation to it. In terms of what it actually tastes like, the product has a flavor that tastes like a guarana berry flavor. Then again, as you drink the product, it becomes harder and harder to distinguish other flavors from the mix as the cooling sensation continues to take over your mouth. And let’s not forget the energy kick, which, relying on their proprietary “Energy 9.0” blend, gets you going quickly. While it’s hard to say how many people would drink this on a regular basis (we bet that you’ll either love the cooling sensation or hate it), having an innovative flavor like this as part of the lineup should help make Slap a memorable brand. We’d say the same for the exterior of the product, with prime placement of the Slap logo (a large square filled with block letters) on the center of the front panel. They’ve wisely put all of the text on a dark background, making for an easy to read design that looks great when standing next to the other Slap flavors. All in all, an innovative product that’s well executed.Reviewed on: 9/22/2009

Lemon Ice White Tea

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 oz can
BevNET Review: Slap’s Lemon Ice White Tea Energy Drink is the rebranded version of what used to be the Slap Tea Lemonade White Tea variety. In its new form, the product has a nice balance of flavor to it, with easily distinguishable notes of tea, lemon, and energy flavors. Even with the use of sucralose, the product has no aftertaste, but the level of sweetness is all there. So is the buzz, which comes from a cocktail of 9 energy ingredients (isomaltulose, taurine, maltodextrin, caffeine, red tea, niacin, guarana, yerba mate, pyridoxine hydrochloride) known as their “Energy 9.0” blend. Yes, there’s a slight aftertaste from the functional ingredients, but it’s very light and doesn’t get in the way of the rest of the flavor. The addition of carbonation gives the drink some pop, while a final note of tea flavor gives the product a crisp finish. Packaging has a bright and positive vibe to it, with the old smiley face logo replaced by a new design that features large block letters. While it’s not as fun (or off-kilter) as the original, it makes the product feel like a more credible energy product. If we were to change anything about this package, it would be to make the two separate flavors (“Lemon Ice” and “White Tea Energy”) more cohesive. In its current state, one certainly might wonder what’s actually going to be inside the can. Nitpicking aside, this is a much improved product that manages to look and taste great while delivering some decent energy kick.Reviewed on: 9/22/2009

+ Show Product ReviewGreen Tea Energy

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 fl oz. can
BevNET Review: Brain Twist has paired green tea with apple and mint flavor, which gives the product a flavor that's quite different than other green tea energy drinks that we've sampled. It starts off with an almost candy-like green apple flavor, which is then followed by green tea and energy flavors before finally finishing with the faint taste of mint. It's pretty well executed, with the exception of the initial apple flavor, which hits your nose a bit too strongly for our liking. Packaging works well, especially with the green panels at the top and bottom of the can. We'd probably like the design more if it weren't bare metal around the midsection -- it makes the can somewhat hard to read. A full green paint job might be a better way to go. Reviewed on: 5/7/2007

+ Show Product ReviewRed Tea Energy

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 fl oz. can
BevNET Review: Slap's Red Tea Energy is our favorite variety of the Slap Tea brand. For starters, the product has an attractive color scheme that's sharper looking and more eye-catching than the other flavors in the brand. Second, it has the best flavor: there's a decent dose of tea, although we can't really say it tastes like red tea. The product is sweetened with a blend of sucralose and fructose, which gives it a slightly lower calorie and carb profile without compromising taste. There's also a very mild splash of citrus in the flavor, followed by a finish that has some sweetener and energy aftertaste, but not enough to scare anyone away. Overall, it's a very enjoyable product that's probably Brain Twist's best to date.Reviewed on: 4/26/2007

+ Show Product ReviewWhite Tea Energy

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 fl oz. can
BevNET Review: The White Tea variety of Slap Tea is also flavored with Lemonade, which overpowers most of the other flavors in the product. That being said, we'd love it if they would tone down the lemonade flavor and add a bit more tea to it. Still, it's a pleasant product -- assuming you are OK with a lemonade flavor -- and we appreciate the sweetener blend to help cut the calories. Packaging for this variety is silver with white and yellow accents surrounding the unique "Slap" logo. It's not as eye-catching as the red or green accents of the other two flavors, but the single color is a bit cleaner looking. Overall, a good product, but it would be a lot better with some more tea flavor.Reviewed on: 4/26/2007
