BevNET Review: While Slow Cow'’s name might imply that it’s a relaxation drink, it’'s more of an “anti-energy” drink, both in function and in looks. Most notably, it now features a passed-out bull on the front of the label (a playful jab at a certain someone in the energy drink space). While it certainly has an element of parody and novelty to it, their most recent rendition is an improvement over their past designs. In this case, the 250 ml can is clean and easy on the eyes, with a pleasing, almost minimalist look to it. Inside the can, this carbonated beverage is sweetened with sucralose and is enhanced with herbal ingredients, resulting in a flavor that tastes like a cross between a functional beverage and a berry flavored diet CSD. In our opinion, the flavor is still average -- it's tolerable, but not something you'd pick up for flavor alone. Functionally, this product’'s sole claim to “help soothe mind and body” is based primarily around the addition of L-Theanine, a GABA increasing amino acid found in tea. It also features hops, chamomile, valerian root, and other herbal ingredients that are known for their relaxation benefits. Ultimately, the flavor of the product is decent and the branding and presentation of the brand are improved, but still not without room for improvement. What it comes down to is the product's communication of what's inside the can -- it's still not clear enough to have widespread appeal. Reviewed on: 10/5/2010
