Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Diet; Container: 16 oz can
BevNET Review: Slump Buster "Kevin Youkilis Edition" is a sugar free and calorie free energy drink that's been given a citrus flavor. It's a very pleasant tasting drink, with a natural level of sweetness (thanks to a sucralose and acesulfame potassium blend) and minimal aftertaste. They've enhanced the drink with taurine, caffeine, ginkgo biloba, and a cocktail of vitamins, putting it on par with competing energy drinks. The difference makers are the use of Kevin Youkilis, a player for the Boston Red Sox and a World Series Champion, and the charitable intentions of the drink (a portion of the proceeds go to Kevin Youkilis Hits for Kids). Packaging is reasonably clean and we like the use of an MLB player on this brand, but we have two concerns. First, there isn't enough prominence given to the charity, nor is enough detail disclosed to make it seem credible. Second, while the drink tastes good and we're familiar with Kevin Youkilis, we think the drink needs a bit more than what appears to be a pretty standard tasting drink. Overall, it seems like a good idea, but needs improvement in execution.Reviewed on: 9/3/2008

Slump Buster Energy Drink

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 16 oz can
BevNET Review: SlumpBuster is a new baseball themed energy drink (now that's a first) packaged in a 16 ounce can. It's a full calorie formulation that relies upon a moderately sweet citrus flavor that's sweetened with sugar and sucralose, which is surprising since the drink has 220 calories per can. At any rate, the functional ingredients in the drink are your typical energy drink cocktail of caffeine, taurine, herbal ingredients, B vitamins, and amino acids. The result is a product that's not overly innovative, but is enjoyable nonetheless. As far as the packaging goes, it feels rather generic, which is due to the white color scheme (typically reserved for diet drinks) and the rather austere looking backdrop. Overall, it's a decent entry, but it seems like it will appeal most to value conscious consumers -- who already have countless products vying for their interest.Reviewed on: 6/17/2008
