Electrify - Agave Lemonade

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 20 fl oz (591 ml) PET
BevNET Review: The latest rendition of SoBe Lifewater also brings a few new flavors, including Electrify, an agave flavored lemonade. However, there's no agave in it -- just sugar -- and the lemonade flavor seems to have minimal trace of anything resembling agave flavor. It's still enjoyable, but there's really nothing overly original about what's inside the bottle. On the outside, the product uses a softer, less aggressive look than prior efforts. The SoBe brand is downplayed heavily -- and at odds, which begs the question of why it's even needed? Perhaps another Pepsi brand would perform better? Either way, the current look looks clean and technical, but it also looks "me too" and uninspired. That might mean another overhaul for this brand...Reviewed on: 7/18/2008

Go-ji - Goji Melon

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 20 fl oz (591 ml) PET
BevNET Review: Go-Ji is a goji mellon flavored drink that has a relatively pleasant sweetened mellon flavor. It's mildly sweet, with slight herbal and vitamin notes to the finish. There's no goji in the product, which makes it a rather strange ingredient to use to market a mainstream drink like this. "Functional" ingredients vitamins and herbal ingredients, including red clover and hibiscus, which is rather mild as far as the category goes. Packaging is decent, but doesn't really jump out from the sea of competition that they are up against. Furthermore, it still feels too similar to Vitamin Water (both in looks and flavor) to feel credible, which is the biggest issue that they've got to overcome. Overall, this isn't a meaningful step forward from their previous efforts.Reviewed on: 7/18/2008

Strawberry Kiwi Lemonade

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 20 oz PET
BevNET Review: We preferred this flavor to the other electrolyte-enhanced flavor of Sobe Life Water 0 Calorie that we sampled. While it still suffers from being too sweet and from having a fruit flavor that isn’t as accurate as it could be, the flavor choice does manage to mask the aftertaste of the erythritol and stevia that are used to sweeten the drink. Otherwise, it’s almost identical to its counterpart, with a messy looking package and functionality that seems to barely scratch the surface. Overall, despite having better flavor than the Macintosh Apple Cherry variety, this entry still falls flat.Reviewed on: 2/17/2011

Macintosh Apple Cherry

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 20 oz PET
BevNET Review: Designed to be an all-natural zero-calorie beverage that delivers both vitamins and electrolytes for hydration, SoBe’s Macintosh Apple Cherry Lifewater is what one might call a curmudgeon of a product. It all starts with the flavor, which, at least for a zero-calorie hydration beverage, is way too sweet. There’s a heavy sweetener flavor (erythritol / stevia) and the fruit flavor is candy like and overpowering (it also tastes nothing like macintosh apples, making this a pointless descriptor). The bottle feels like Times Square, with too many things competing for your attention, including various font sizes, graphic accents, and functional benefits. And functionally, this product doesn’t offer much more than a drop of the marketed nutrients, none of which go beyond 10 percent RDA (and some are as low as 2 percent). All of this leads us to ask what type of consumer would actually consume this product on a regular basis. Our conclusion is that it will take a significantly discounted price point to get any pull out of this product. Reviewed on: 2/17/2011

Challenge - Pomegranate Cherry

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 20 fl oz (591 ml) PET
BevNET Review: What would a line of enhanced waters be without the au courant pomegranate flavor? It’s hard to tell here – despite what the label says, SoBe leaves its pomegranate taste to be dominated by an overpowering rush of cherry flavor. And while that cherry flavor isn’t bad, it does completely hide the pomegranate. Regardless, this is probably our second-favorite Life Water. We could see ourselves getting through a bottle and maybe even buying it again – there’s something addictive about sweet cherries. Of course, the problem remains that we – or other consumers – would have to look really hard at the label to determine that this is, indeed, the Pomegranate Cherry product, but at least we’d get to enjoy the label’s excellent droplet pattern while we searched for the flavor line.Reviewed on: 3/22/2006

Energize - Passionfruit Citrus

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 20 fl oz (591 ml) PET
BevNET Review: This is a sweet, appealingly fruity enhanced water that manages to avoid the bitterness of the Orange Tangerine. The passionfruit flavor isn’t overly detectible, but there is something vaguely tropical about the overall tone. Other than that, the bugs remain: Life Water has not been able to master the crisp, drinkable feel of the other enhanced waters and the writing on the label is too small, which may lead to consumer confusion.Reviewed on: 3/22/2006

Shield - Orange Tangerine

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 20 fl oz (591 ml) PET
BevNET Review: This is SoBe’s first major-brand offensive against the emerging glaceau juggernaut. The orange flavor is indistinct and has a somewhat bitter aftertaste, and the formulation doesn’t have any of that crisp mouthfeel that other enhanced waters have perfected. The bottle, with round shoulders and a raised SoBe lizard, is attractive and the label uses a funky, layered droplet pattern that we really like. But the flavor on the label is tiny and hard to read.Reviewed on: 3/22/2006

Enlighten - Blackberry Grape

Product Type:Water: Enhanced; Container: 20 fl oz (591 ml) PET
BevNET Review: SoBe's Blackberry Grape flavor tastes quite watered-down. Perhaps it is just the grape flavor used, but it's too weak for our liking. On a positive note, the grape droplet pattern on the label is the best of the lineup. The blackberry and grape flavors don’t seem to have much in common, and neither is particularly distinct in the mix. We'd recommend that they pick one or the other and increase the volume of it. Until then, this is our least favorite flavor of the Life Water lineup.Reviewed on: 3/22/2006
