BevNET Review: Speaking strictly from a flavor point of view, Spider Energy Drink is a pretty enjoyable, albeit familiar-tasting, product. There’s a very sweet (sugar sweetened) orange flavor to the drink, with a crisp bite to the finish. It packs 100mg of caffeine per 8 ounce serving, as well as added ginseng, guarana, B vitamins, taurine, and amino acids. As a result, the product has kick that’s on par with the 16 ounce category. On the exterior, the product’s 16 ounce can has been given a nicely executed graphic treatment. We appreciate that the designer used restraint when choosing colors, resulting in a black, orange, and grey look that’s clean and appealing to the eye. The same can be said for the design of the spider and the surrounding text elements. Visual execution aside, the use of a spider gives the product an aggressive feeling, but then again, it’s not an image that naturally exudes energy. In addition, it seems to be trying to speak the same language as established brands (e.g. Monster), which makes it hard for us to see the product’s point of differentiation. That being said, this product might have a spot in the market as a value brand. Overall, good flavor and visual execution, but the product needs a better point of differentiation if it’s going to stand out.Reviewed on: 10/23/2009
