Featuring 50 Cent and support for a social cause (child hunger -- each bottle sold will provide a meal to a child), Street King certainly has a potential advantage when it comes to differentiating from the crowded energy shot category. In terms of looks, they’ve done a nice job of making it look like its own product rather than a 5-Hour “me-too,” with the exception of the “6 Hours of Energy” call out (that feels a bit desperate). The visual design of the package is otherwise clean, with a sharp looking black bottle and a nicely arranged front panel that also benefits from the use of metallic ink. And given the charitable intentions, we think it’s smart that they’ve kept the branding classy rather than going for a more in-your-face approach (such as 50 Cent on the front label or a big call to action for the charity). Inside the bottle, the grape flavor (and we’d say the same for the Orange Mango variety) tastes like a typical energy shot. Nothing overly new or out of the ordinary, which, for a product like this, might actually be okay (you can support the cause without having to stray too far from what you know). Functionally, it relies on B vitamins, caffeine, and ginkgo biloba -- standard energy shot ingredients so we expect it to perform on par with other products in the category. Overall, it’s a nicely executed shot and one of the best we’ve seen when it comes to either a celebrity-backed product or one with a charitable focus.
