The Switch

BevNET Review: The Switch's latest variety is Lemon Lime which, like their other flavors, is made with 100% juice (meaning concentrates that are reconstituted with the sufficient amount of sparkling water). In this case, the product uses apple, grape, lemon, and acerola juices as well as natural flavors, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), and gum acacia (a natural binding agent). The combination is sweet, with a heavy note of apple and grape flavor hitting your tongue before the lemon and lime flavors make their way through the mixture. To a certain extent, this mixture tastes like what you'd get from mixing apple juice and lemonade. Now we realize it would be pretty hard to make a 100% juice lemon lime drink without other juices, but in this case, sharper lemon and lime flavors would be huge. Packaging is a 250ml slim can that's been given a shiny paint job that looks like gold with a splash of green. There are images of lemon limes placed prominently on the package, which certainly helps identify the flavor. However, the use of white text on top of the shiny metallic paint job makes the text difficult to read depending on lighting conditions. That makes it possible to miss the fact that the product is sparkling. That's something that could be remedied by moving "sparkling" into the green band that contains the flavor name. Overall, it's a good entry from The Switch, but one that would be better if there were more lemon and lime flavor to the mix. Reviewed on: 8/17/2009
