Iced Chai

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 13.8 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Using a blend of erythritol and stevia, Tazo’s Zero Calorie Iced Chai is an attempt to latch on to the new trend of being zero calorie and “naturally sweetened.” It starts out with a strong chai aroma, but unfortunately the flavor doesn’t quite match up: the taste is actually rather weak, with a watery body that’s quickly overwhelmed by the sweeteners. That said, this feels very much like a product that was first and foremost developed to be a vehicle for stevia (maybe there’s some corporate mandate that each Pepsi brand must have one?). In any event, less sweetener flavor would definitely make this product more enjoyable. On the outside, the product lacks any sort of pop, with the sole exception perhaps being the proprietary bottle. The label feels boring and corporate looking, thanks to a front panel that’s jam-packed with text in different colors and fonts. They’ve left only a tiny area for an image, which simply doesn’t whet the appetite. Overall, this product needs work.Reviewed on: 5/27/2011

Refresh

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 13.8 oz Glass
BevNET Review: This flavor isn’t actually a tea, but an “herbal infusion” of spearmint, peppermint, and tarragon, which has been sweetened with erythritol and reb A (stevia). Clearly, the main focus was in making a product that could qualify as zero calorie and be all natural – because it certainly doesn’t taste very good. In our opinion, this product tastes as though they started with the Zen flavor and removed the citrus flavor from the product, leaving something that has an even more pronounced sweetener flavor. And, like the other two flavors, the packaging is busy and heavy on the text, with too little emphasis placed on the product’s flavor to the point where it fails the whet the appetite. Overall, this product needs a lot of work. Reviewed on: 3/24/2010

Zen

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 13.8 oz Glass
BevNET Review: The first flavor of Tazo’s Zero Calorie line that we sampled was this one, a rebiana and erythritol sweetened blend of green tea, spearmint, and lemongrass. Unfortunately, the added sweeteners overwhelm the base flavors of the drink, with the lemongrass and mint having an almost pasty note in your mouth. There’s certainly some green tea flavor in there, but again, it’s really difficult to get past the sweetener. That being said, it’s hard to understand why they went with a rebiana sweetened product as opposed to making these completely unsweetened. Surely, the benefits of claiming that this is “all natural” do not outweigh the product’s flavor. Packaging is just like the other Tazo bottles, with a proprietary bottle and a simple paper label going across the midsection of the bottle. It’s not an overly attractive label, which is mainly the result of the amount of text that they’ve placed on the front. The biggest issue we see is that the flavor name “green tea with lemongrass and spearmint” has much smaller billing than the text promoting it as an all natural zero calorie formulation. Overall, this product leaves a lot to be desired.Reviewed on: 3/24/2010

White Cranberry

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 13.8 fl oz
BevNET Review: Tazo's White Cranberry is, unlike Berryblossom, a full calorie product that is made with 2 percent white cranberry juice. Sweetened with cane sugar, the product has a clean body and a crisp finish. There's a pretty nice taste to the product, although it's skewed more towards being a juice product than a tea. Like Tazo's other white tea variety, we'd like to see more tea flavor and a bit less juice. Last, there's the bottle, which emits a definite vibe of "premium". It's a pretty good looking product, but we wonder if the consumer will expect something different from what's inside the bottle. Overall, this is one of the best mainstream white tea entries, but in all honesty, we can say that only because the bar is otherwise set very low.Reviewed on: 6/28/2007

Organic Iced Green

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 13.8 fl oz
BevNET Review: Tazo's Organic Iced Green tea uses a blend of green tea, lemongrass, spearmint, lemon verbena, natural flavors and cane sugar in a USDA Organic formulation. The flavor is sweet and with 70 calories / 18g of carbs per serving, it's a bit strong on the tongue. There's some good stuff in here, but it's really hard to taste (aside from a tiny splash of spearmint), which is due to a level of sweetness that's simply too strong. What we'd really like to see are stronger tea and mint flavors and less of the cane sugar. Otherwise, we think they've got packaging that works, so if the formula were to be tweaked, they've definitely got a winner.Reviewed on: 6/28/2007

Berryblossom White

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 13.8 fl oz
BevNET Review: As far as mainstream white tea products go, this is certainly one of the better ones, if for no other reason than it actually tastes somewhat like tea. There's a strong blueberry aroma to it, which then transfers over to the body of the tea itself. It's a bit too strong though, resulting in something that actually tastes like blueberry flavoring as opposed to the real thing. The use of cane sugar is a plus, giving the product a crisp finish. Overall, the flavor is more or less enjoyable, especially for only 35 calories per serving. If they could clean up the blueberry flavor a bit, we'd probably like it a lot more.Reviewed on: 6/28/2007

Brambleberry

Product Type:Tea: Sweetened; Container: 13.8 fl oz)
BevNET Review: Brambleberry is another fine concoction from Tazo. This great tasting beverage features a caffeine free micro-brewed tea combined with orange peel, mint, apple juice, pear juice, and marionberry juice. The resulting flavor has a strong tartness to it. This beverage is very refreshing and full of zest. Reviewed on: 9/25/2002
