Review: I Love My Liver

Teaonic’s “I Love My Liver” formulation is an unsweetened blend of rooibos, milk thistle, hibiscus, rosehips, peppermint, ginger root, dandelion root and dandelion tea. We admittedly found the overly functional and preachy vibe of the product to be slightly off-putting to the point where we were expecting this product to have a somewhat harsh flavor to it. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case. What’s inside the bottle is smooth and enjoyable with a nice brew of rooibos at the heart of the product. The other ingredients complement it nicely, with the ginger, rosehips, and mint being the ones that are most easy to distinguish from the mix. Still, this product is -- despite how it’s labeled -- very much a tea beverage that one would drink for flavor. And we think that most consumers who drink this product will feel the same way. The emphasis on the the liver seems a bit too in your face, but the template for the label feels like something that’s workable with different copy. Furthermore, we found the bottle, which is an 8 oz. clear glass bottle with a small opening, harder to drink from than what you typically find on a tea. Lastly, we believe that they need to adopt a split supplement facts panel (the kind that also discloses calories, sugar, etc.). Otherwise, we think that choosing this product over another tea is simply going to be too risky for most consumers. Overall, the liquid is nice, but the branding seems to put this product in a very limited niche market.
