Ginger Mint

Product Type:Carbonated Soft Drink: Regular; Container: 12 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Billed as a "Sparkling Wasabi Green Tea," this product is a mid-calorie (thanks to the use of erythritol) sparkling green tea beverage that has been flavored with ginger, mint, and wasabi. Despite the use of wasabi, the drink is not spicy, although there's definitely a slight note of wasabi on the finish. Otherwise, the product is very smooth and clean, with green tea, ginger, and mint providing the primary flavors in the drink. While the drink tastes sweet, the flavors of the drink are kept in check, which is a good thing when you are working with potentially overpowering flavors like these. The blend of sugar and erythritol works well, with 70 calories per bottle and absolutely no aftertaste. The drink's 12 oz. glass bottle seems like a good fit for the brand, positioning it nicely in the premium CSD category. However, we think that it's hard to understand exactly what you are getting into when looking at the label, especially if you've never had sparkling green tea. And that's the biggest challenge for this product — selling a concept that's new and unique. While we don't feel as though the current label design is doing it perfectly, what's inside the bottle is extremely enjoyable and unique. Reviewed on: 1/13/2011

Red Plum

Product Type:Carbonated Soft Drink: Regular; Container: 12 oz Glass
BevNET Review: Of the three flavors that make up the TeaZazz Naturalz Sparkling Wasabi Green Tea line, Red Plum is our favorite. Not just because we think it's the best tasting of the three (which we do), but also because we think that this is the most marketable flavor of the bunch. The flavor of the drink is really enjoyable, with the bold plum flavor offering a nice contrast to the green tea and wasabi that are also in the base of the drink. This, along with the slight spice from the wasabi at the finish, helps mask the sugar and erythritol sweetener blend that has been used to keep this product's calories at a modest 70 per bottle. The drink comes packaged in a longneck 12 oz. glass bottle, which has a label around the front. While this seems like the right format for a product of this nature, there's something about the label that just doesn’t feel complete to us -- the product feels like it needs to be better put together. Otherwise, we think that consumers will have a hard time figuring out how this product will taste (how many people out there know what green tea, wasabi, and red plum taste like?) or what they're in for. In some respects, focusing more on the red plum and making the wasabi and green tea less prominent might help this product turn. Overall, we really like the flavor and the concept, but selling it in its current form probably leaves it with a very limited niche.Reviewed on: 1/13/2011
