BevNET Review: Of the three flavors of TheBU that we sampled, this variety is the only one that uses a floral flavoring (the others are fruit flavored). While lavender and kombucha do pair well together (we’ve had it from another manufacturer), this rendition’s flavoring is a bit heavy handed. Even on the first sip, the lavender flavor tastes like something from a personal care product (there’s an almost soapy finish to it). Otherwise, the product’s base of organic green tea, organic sugar, natural flavors, and organic kombucha culture seem like it has the makings of a high quality product. Hopefully in future batches they can dial the lavender down just a bit. Overall, we like the concept, but the execution needs some improvement to be at the same level as their other flavors. BevNET Review: The BU’s Melon variety is made with organic black and green teas, organic sugar, organic sugar, natural flavors, and organic kombucha culture. As far as kombucha products go, this one has a very balanced flavor, with the melon flavoring doing a nice job of smoothing out the bitter fermentation note. That said, this product, which was formulated with the mainstream in mind, is something that would be a good place to start if you are new to kombucha. However, the melon flavor is clearly from flavoring (it has an almost candy like flavor). While that’s a minor issue (it still tastes good), using a better flavoring or adding juice might make it even better. On the outside, we really like the proprietary 16 oz. glass bottle that they’ve chosen. The label, which is very neatly organized and has only the essentials on the front panel, is super easy to read and straight to the point, while the tall shape of the bottle gives the product the appearance of being larger than 16 ounces. On the store shelf, we think that these things will help the product stand out against some of the other products that are currently out there. Overall, an enjoyable product whose only real area for improvement is in the fruit flavoring that is used.Reviewed on: 1/27/2012

BevNET Review: Formulated with taste and consistency in mind, TheBU’s Tropical flavor is definitely a clean, refreshing, and easy to drink kombucha beverage. Compared with other products out there, it definitely has a smooth mouth feel throughout, which seems to be the result of getting the carbonation to just the right level (others are often too carbonated or not carbonated enough). The base ingredients include water, organic black tea, organic sugar, natural flavors, and organic kombucha culture. The “tropical” flavor comes exclusively from flavoring as opposed to juice, but it’s an accurate one and adds something to help balance out the fermented kombucha flavor. The packaging, which is a16 oz.proprietary glass bottle, is simple, but eye catching. The shape of the bottle, which features a tall sloping neck, gives the product the illusion of being larger than it actually is. Plus, we appreciate the front panel’s minimalist look. All in all, this is a very enjoyable kombucha that is thoughtfully executed and feels like it has the potential to reach the mainstream.Reviewed on: 1/27/2012
