BevNET Review: Made primarily as a promotional or novelty product for HBO’s show of the same name, Tru Blood (the show is “True Blood”) is a CSD-like energy drink. The flavor of the product is sweet (from cane sugar and sucralose) and features a tart blood orange flavor and fruit punch flavor. Despite being a novelty product, the flavor is quite good, with the fruit flavor working nicely to help mask the functional ingredients contained in the bottle. As far as functional ingredients go, this isn’t really a serious energy drink, with only 50mg of caffeine per 14 oz bottle (along with B vitamins). Visually, they did a really nice job with this product, with a proprietary red glass bottle that fits with the blood theme. It feels heavy in the hand and has a funky but clean appearance. Overall, we’re sure that this product won’t really see the time of day in any traditional retailers (it retails for $5 a bottle), but they did a great job crafting this product and it’s definitely a nice application of the brand.Reviewed on: 6/8/2012
