Review: Bunched Greens

Despite the bold green color, the Bunched Greens flavor of True Organic Farms is very much a fruit juice smoothie first and foremost. The flavors that hit your tongue first are apple, banana, pineapple, mango and lemon, which also gives the drink a pretty hefty sweetness. If you’re expecting greens (as we were), this is definitely not the right drink for you. It’s only at the finish that you taste even a hint of the spinach, kale and lettuce that the company put in there. And seeing as how all of these ingredients come from concentrated juices, it’s not a surprise that they don’t influence the drink in any material way aside from color. All in all, we were pretty disappointed with the way that this product tastes. While the promise of greens was appealing, what’s inside the bottle just didn’t line up and was too sweet. Obviously, this is a flaw with the branding and messaging. It’s selling you hard on “organic,” farm imagery and the “True” brand, which would lead you to believe that this is a higher end juice product than it actually is. The branding could be, if it were applied to a different type of juice product, something that we could see playing with the high pressure processed or other super premium brands. Overall, we like what the brand stands for, but the execution is not well-aligned.
