True’s “Tropical Mango” is a blend of six fruit and vegetable juices, including apple, mango, orange, carrot, lemon and banana. While it’s USDA Organic certified, this pasteurized product is, with the exception of the carrot, mango and banana purees, made from concentrate juice. This is definitely something that is noticed in the flavor, which starts out with a heavy hit of banana and mango before falling flat into apple juice. Furthermore, it’s a flavor that’s very similar to the big smoothie brands that are already on the market. That said, it’s hard to really feel very positive about what the company has created. On the outside, the branding and messaging is definitely well-designed and thought out. However, the technical execution, which uses a full wrap clear label, leaves something to be desired -- it fogs up and makes the liquid look brownish. But our biggest issue with this product is the messaging. The name “True” and all of the copy would be perfect for a not-from-concentrate or high pressure processed product. For a pasteurized product using concentrates, it just doesn’t seem right. Overall, there are some good parts to this product, but as a whole, it definitely leaves something to be desired.
