Review: Japanese Matcha

Posted: Oct 06, 2013 at 12:00 AM (Last Updated: Oct 08, 2013 at 10:22 AM)
TumericALIVE’s Japanese Matcha is a high pressure processed blend of water, raw honey, ginger, matcha, turmeric, lemon juice, sea salt and spices. Compared with the other varieties that make up the TumericALIVE brand, this product is definitely the most unique tasting and has the lightest turmeric flavor of the line. As for the flavor, it’s quite nice, with an earthy and grassy matcha flavor as the base. From there, the added turmeric and ginger give it a nice spice note, while the honey and lemon help round things out and keep everything nice and balanced. While the product is being marketed as a turmeric drink, it definitely feels like it could contend as an iced tea alternative as well. To that end, this seems like a nice starting point for additional flavors -- it seems like a pretty versatile flavor that could be adapted into additional SKUs. Visually, we’re definitely pleased to see TurmericALIVE have a product that isn’t as orange/gold as the other flavors are. The square 12 oz. bottle seems like the perfect portion for the product and, for the most part, we feel as though the design of the product is clean and polished. If there’s anything that we’d change, it would be the name of the product, which, in its “call it what it is” naming convention, doesn’t actually do the formulation justice. Overall, the product is a very nice extension to the brand.
