Strawberry Lemonade

Product Type:Juice: Juice Drink; Container: 8.4 oz Can
BevNET Review: Editor’s Note: Of the two V8 V-Fusion Sparkling flavors that we sampled, this variety needs more improvement than its counterpart. Specifically, there is a much heavier sweetener flavor to the finish and the lemonade flavor is masked by the other, stronger-bodied juices that have been added.Reviewed on: 6/18/2012

Black Cherry Pomegranate

Product Type:Juice: Juice Drink; Container: 8.4 oz Can
BevNET Review: Made with 50 percent juice and sweetened with fruit juice and added stevia, V8’s V-Fusion Sparkling Black Cherry Pomegranate is a product that is relatively high in calories (60 per can) given how diet-like the flavor tastes. The product feels like it is struggling with what it wants to be. There’'s a pretty heavy juice flavor (we taste pomegranate and apple, but there are a total of five vegetable and fruit juices in the mix), but then it quickly shifts into a CSD-like flavor profile thanks to the carbonation and stevia finish. From a nutritional point of view, the product, which claims it has “one combined serving of vegetables & fruit,” lists vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E at relatively low levels. Factoring this in with the soda like taste, we’'re not really sure who this drink is for -- a CSD drinker, a juice consumer, or someone else? However, the packaging is the weakest part of this product. Yes, it has the V8 brand, which is certainly synonymous with “good for you” with some percentage of consumers, but the visual execution is messy and confusing. That starts with the use of an 8.4oz can, which looks like an energy drink. The design is fairly innocuous, but the amount of text on the front of the can is less than desirable. Overall, this product leaves something to be desired both in flavor and packaging.Reviewed on: 6/18/2012

Pomegranate Blueberry

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 8 oz Can
BevNET Review: V8 V Fusion Energy is a non-carbonated energy drink that is made with 50% juice (from fruits and vegetables). The energy comes from added green tea extract, a natural source of caffeine, and added B vitamins. From a taste perspective, the product is underwhelming, with a bland flavor that tastes like fruit punch rather than each of the juices that are in the mixture. In addition, it uses sucralose, which is definitely noticeable at the finish. Perhaps if this were carbonated, which would make it more like a traditional energy drink, things would be different. As it stands, we’re not really sure what part of the energy drink category this product fills. Visually, the silver can is extremely cluttered, with a variety of callouts and text competing for the eye. Making it have more emphasis on the V8 Splash logo would probably help. Overall, this product is just mediocre in our opinion.Reviewed on: 6/14/2012

Peach Mango

Product Type:Functional: Energy Drink: Regular; Container: 8 oz Can
BevNET Review: Of the two V8 V-Fusion Energy flavors that we sampled, this is the one that we preferred. This is mainly the result of fruit flavor that is much cleaner, with both the peach and mango flavors distinguishable from the mixture. In addition, the sucralose is less of an issue for this flavor than it is with the Pomegranate Blueberry. However, we can’t help but feel as though they should have carbonated this product -- it would drink much more like you would expect an energy drink to. Functionally, the energy comes from added green tea extract, a natural source of caffeine, and added B vitamins. On the visual front, the choice of an 8oz can definitely makes it look like an energy drink, but the design of the front panel is less than appealing. There’s a lot of noise in the form of text on the front panel -- they should just cut a lot of it out (or move it to the back panel) as it doesn’t impact the purchase decision. In addition, the yellow swirl in the background doesn’t add anything and makes the text blend in rather than stand out. Overall, it’s the better of the two V8 V-Fusion Energy flavors, but it still needs work. Reviewed on: 6/14/2012
